An Offensive HC and the 4-3?

I've heard a lot of key things lately. Both Lacewell and Aikman have been quoted as saying that the Cowboys need an offensive coach rather than a defensive one. Speaking that its easier to find a good defensive coordinator than an offensive coordinator. I would like to see someone bring Tony Romo along, and unleash our offense with a better offensive line, better utilization of Terrell Owens, and a more aggressive approach to scoring.

That said I'd have to say I wouldn't mind Norv Turner, if we got a good defensive coordinator. Like Mike Singletary or Pepper Johnson.

Greg Ellis said that if we go back to the 4-3, that we're going to have to redraft, and that will set us back. But I can't help but think that this team is still better suited for the 4-3. Honestly I would like to see a mix between schemes. But I'm very concerned about what we can do with Greg Ellis.

We're a good off season away from the super bowl. But making key decisions are clearly going to effect whether or not we have that good off season. I think we have the talent on this team to be easily better than any team in the nfl. I think we all know we have a top 5 offense and top 5 defense (assuming Ellis comes back at full speed or we replace him with someone as good or better).

I like Greg Ellis, but I take his talent evaluations with a grain of salt. He could not even analyze his own strengths and weaknesses and realize he would do OK in a 3-4.

Neither one of those guys are defensive coordinators and have never been so, so how can you declare them as good ones?

It's partially true. It won't set us back as far as it did switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4. Ferguson, Spears, Ratliff would be defensive tackles and Ware and Jason Hater would become starting defensive ends. I would guess James, Carp, and Ayodele would be the starting linebackers. Henry, Newman, Watkins and Williams would close out the starting defense. I would expect the Cowboys to pick another defensive end (or two) up in FA, draft, or a trade with all the other players they have like Canty, etc.

I think they could make the switch pretty easily. Hell, they it at the end of the year against the Lions.

If Dallas goes back to a 4-3 what happens to Spears and Canty? I know alot of posters think that they can play an under DT position but that might not be the case. What if Spears and Canty are not strong enough to stop the run on the inside? If Dallas does go back they both might have to be traded. Dallas does have the linebackers to play the 4-3. Burnett and Carpenter could man the outsides with Adoyele holding down the middle. Ellis and Ware would start on the outside with Hatcher spelling Ware on running downs. Dallas would need to draft a 4-3 DT and a 4-3 DE which is not that hard. I think Spears would still net a low first and Canty might get a low first to high second. A team like San Fran, Cleveland, Pittsburgh would be more than willing to talk.

Why? What evidence suggests that we have a greater number of talented D-linemen than linebackers? With Ellis, Ware, Ayodele, Burnett, James, Carpenter, Hatcher, Singleton, etc., we have a very good LB corp, while we have very few D-linemen that would be effective DEs in the 4-3...

Why do people insist on changing back to the 4-3 when this 3-4 was VERY effective before Ellis went down??

He will have a huge struggle to make the final 53 in my opinion. There is no way we can go into 2007 counting on him for any contributions.

Yeah, and that worked well didn't it?
