Charlie Waters.

He was the DC for the Broncos in 1989 under Dan Reeves and with Wade Phillips.

This is pure speculation on my part.

It could be nothing at all since he and Cliff Harris have a company together and he quit broadcasting because it took so much time away from that venture.

Oh, I would love it, but I don't expect it to happen. Just wanted to talk about it.

well he does love wade. He is one of the few who speaks highly of him as a head coach.

but he was too busy to even do the color work on the radio broadcast, I cant imagine jerry allows them to hire him.

As much as I like Charlie Waters, he really struggled at Denver and was fired. He hasn't been in the NFL for a long time.

He actually applied for the Texas Tech job in 2000 when Mike Leach was hired.

the story about being busy might well have been a soft shoe replacement. he wasn't exactly great in the role.

waters suffered some personal tragedies that changed his priorities and effected his coaching but he seems willing now to devote full time to a football job again.

all that said, i dont think he'd be a DC candidate tho perhaps a defensive coach of some sort would make sense.

his problems were long before 06 were they not? He said he simply could not do his regular job and then prepare to do the game the way he needed to so he walked away.

I would personally like to see him back on the gameday broadcast doing pregame or postgame, he was great on the pregame.

He would certainly command some respect.

Would he command anymore respect than any other ex-hardnosed player who became a coach?

I mean I get where your coming from but I don't see why him being a former Cowboy is going to get him instant respect you know? Thats just my opinion though.

Love Charlie, but he didn't have a good run at coaching...

Nor should he be. It is nice to get romantic about getting "real Cowboys" in here, but I am not looking forward to some sort of bizarre reunion of the Broncos coaching staff from the Reeves era. Or the Giants or Falcons under him for that matter. Just let him consult and keep it as is.

Why would a team that doesn't even respect its current coaching staff have instant respect for Waters? Most of these players don't even know who he is and probably would have to be told.

A point Drew Pearson made yesterday, although it was more of a shot at Jerry.

Waters was an outstanding player but I think with the amount of time he's been out of coaching that I wouldn't just thrust him back in under the DC role. Maybe work him back in through another role for a year or two first, I certainly wouldn't be opposed to that. He'd certainly command respect.

I have seen/watched Charlie Waters in actions on numerous occasions at Cowboys training camps.....and, he was a great player.....but, I just don't feel it for a DC job Dog.

(American Idol speak) ;-)

Pearson has a bone to pick with Jones because I think Pearson tried to undercut him on some licensing deal with ballcaps years ago and Jones was furious. There's an indication also that might be something that is keeping him out of the Ring of Honor. Even though he made some valid points, he definitely had a grudge that was fueling his comments.
