BTW. What about the call Marvin Lewis just made on 4th and 2 in OT? He's clearly not a rookie coach.

Thats what I thot this thread would be about. Talk about a bonehead call. The real mystery with Marvin Lewis has to do with him keeping his job all these years.

He never iced his own kicker, so he gets a pass. Another coach that baffles me is Lovie Smith. Why so many want him is beyond me?

Look at all the coaches mentioned here in the Twilight Zone that posters have wanted. Lovie Smith wouldnt be all that bad compared to some of the suggestions thrown out here. On the other hand, Im with you on the Lovie love.

Yea, that was pretty strange call to me. How do you not try for the 50 yard FG in that situation.

What's your top 3 then Lombardi? I get it, everyone's thoughts are stupid unless it comes from your mouth.

Other than Gruden in your top 3 who won a SB with Dungy's team similar to Switzer winning one with Jimmy's team, what have those 2 college coaches done to warrant any consideration even in passing?

And once again we see the name-calling.

Thanks for reinforcing what many already think.

Saying the thread is idiotic is not the same as calling someone an idiot. And that post doesn't necessarily reflect on any one poster either. This is for the benefit of all. Also there is a mechanism in place for reporting threads and posts. If you can use those it would be helpful.

That wasnt a spotlight games so it wasnt as big of a deal as you try to make it out to be.

It wasn't a "spotlighted" game but it helped cost the Cowboys their season and it's been the biggest black eye so far in Garrett's head coaching career. You can try spinning it anyway you want because that's your MO but it was one of the games that came back to haunt the Cowboys that season.

You should read it again.

I think they might know the college kids a bit better than our scouts and coaches. Johnson had the same edge, maybe, just maybe those two could get that same edge. I like Sumlin because anyone who could turn that UH team into something deserves a lot of credit. I watched most of their games and he did an excellent job working with the players strengths and weaknesses.

As for Shaw, I lived in Palo Alto when he was hired and watched/read everything about Stanford. He believes in the trenches and has a tough exterior. I mentioned him on here weeks ago way before that thread appeared.

Gruden - if Garrett is fired and Jerry wants a big name, he is the best of the bunch IMO. I especially do not want Lovie, so Gruden is my fall-back.

A lot of college coaches havent done well coming to the NFL. Jimmy had a good situation with all the draft picks from the Herschel Walker trade which made it easier just from the sheer number of picks. Michael Irvin was already on the team being drafted while Landry was still the HC. He got the #1 overall pick and took Troy - a no brainer. Everything worked out very well as we all know. That is the exception and it will prob never happen again like that. A college coach is a real longshot and %'s arent in favor of it being the answer.

As far as Gruden, it would be grabbing a guy to try and win it all with the current team if you think you have enough talent to win it all. It would be all in for a year or two to win it all. If it didnt happen you've taken a step back on what is already a .500 team.

Its a lot easier identifying guys that SHOULD NOT be the next HC of the Dallas Cowboys than it is knowing who the next right guy is. Im happy letting Red _ stay long term unless he really really screws it up the rest of the way this season. He's done some good things and is building something for long term success. Whether it happens remains to be seen. Realistically the odds are better with him than making another change.

What does this have to do with Garrett?

My point to, don't no what the issue is, I actually thought Trestman did the right thing, if ur franchise QB is cleared to play an says he can play then he plays, Cutler got hurt and he went to the back up. Smart move

Can you say with certainty that Shaw or Sumlin should not be the next HC?

I would be happy if Garrett stayed too but in a GM or head scout position. I think that is where he would excel at.

I think it's further confirmation that a great head coach, much like a great QB, is hard to find. When people tirelessly talk about replacing Garrett, they need to remember that.

With certainty? From my chair, absolutely. Sumlin wont have the NFL equivalent to a freshman Heisman winner, so he has to show something once JFF is gone. Shaw needs to show something as well.

I think Red _'s experience so far gives him an advantage over either of those guys even as a HC.
