Commanders | Tucker signs
Thu, 8 Mar 2007 17:35:46 -0800

The Associated Press reports the Washington Commanders have signed unrestricted free-agent OL Ross Tucker (Patriots). Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

If I remember correctly, Tucker played a season (or maybe two) with the Cowboys and several other teams so far during his career.

Not particularly impressive . . . . but then again, who's left? Or maybe he's just depth while the Skins continue their search . . . .

The Cowboys didn't draft Ross Tucker, but if he's the same guy that once played for them then he's the one that had that heart problem that led to his release.

The guy we drafted was Oliver Ross in the third round, and he refused to go to NFLEurope so we released him and then played for the eagles, steelers and cardinals. I know we had a Ross Tucker play for us, but we didn't draft him. Tucker played his first year with the Skins, then us, then buffalo and New England

Ross is a tackle, and as such, would be more likely to be Todd Wade's replacement as the first tackle coming off the bench...

If I'm right about that, it's a bit of a downgrade for the Skins...

NO, but I know the guy you are talking about. He was actually coming along, but had chest pains on the flight home from a game and they had to take him to the hopsital when it landed. He had angioplasty I think and had to retire. I want to say his name was Jeremy something-or-other...

Really this isn't a bad pick up... Atleast it ain't the best player at that position in free agency. This is the type of player that Commanders keeps for a while so get your snickers out.

He's going to be good though. I think Commanders have a superbowl team but they don't give their team time to jell in together, they change they team every year like people change clothes.

Commanders always got to get the best free agents in free agency w/o getting what they need and not getting rid of the coaches or the players...

:lmao2: Oh yeah, because we all know the way to win a superbowl is by signing high priced overated players and giving up all your draft picks.... yeah that's gotta be it.

Commanders Sign Tucker, Look for More Help
Friday, March 9, 2007; Page E03

The Washington Commanders signed offensive lineman Ross Tucker yesterday, but are continuing to try to find a more proven replacement for departed left guard Derrick Dockery.

Tucker, 28, was at Commanders Park yesterday and is trying to revive a pro career that began in Washington.

The Commanders have been assessing several options to take Dockery's spot after he signed with Buffalo over the weekend. Tackles Leonard Davis and Luke Petitgout visited the team, then signed elsewhere, while former Ravens starting guard Edwin Mulitalo could visit soon. Mulitalo has a strong interest in remaining in the area, other NFL players have said, as his children are in school in the Baltimore area and he is active in local charitable endeavors.

Mulitalo is an eight-year starter who lost his position after tearing his triceps in October and the Ravens debated whether to release him. Mulitalo has played alongside Commanders center Casey Rabach, who is also a former Raven. The Commanders also have been in contact with the representatives for free agent offensive linemen Adam Timmerman, Zach Piller, Zach Wiegert and Sean Mahan, according to sources who requested anonymity on sensitive personnel issues.

Tucker has played just one game since the 2004 season and was cut by Cleveland last September, spending the remainder of the season out of football. He was originally signed by Washington as an undrafted free agent from Princeton in 2001, and spent two seasons in Buffalo when Commanders assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams was head coach.

Tucker, who also played for the Dallas Cowboys, will be among a group of players battling for a reserve spot in all likelihood. The Commanders have re-signed journeyman guard Mike Pucillo and could re-sign tackle Todd Wade as they seek depth on the line.

I have no problem with you thinking they're a Superbowl team. But if they are, who isn't? Seriously.
