http://www.espn.com/blog/houston-te...ow-start-to-free-agency-adds-needs-to-defense

So far, the Texans have lost three starters on last season’s No. 1 defense: cornerback A.J. Bouye, safety Quintin Demps and outside linebacker John Simon.
They have two quarterbacks on the roster -- Tom Savage and Brandon Weeden

More urgently:
Until the Texans know how much money they need to allocate for a top free agent, like Romo, they don’t have flexibility with their salary-cap space.
Although the Texans will have the draft to address needs, those open positions are adding up. They entered the offseason in need of a new right tackle, and with the free-agent departures on defense, safety, outside linebacker and possibly cornerback have been added to that list.
If Houston can acquire Romo in the coming days or weeks, it may be able to fill out its roster more quickly. If the quarterback drama lasts longer, filling holes through free agency may be a bit more difficult.

That is why I hope that Jerry just doesn't release Romo and we get a favorable trade for him.

You guys are never going to get a trade partner for Romo. You guys need to let this go. Every team knows you need to release him. You have no choice. So none of them are going to give up assets when they could potentially get him for nothing.

Furthermore, he's not sure thing anymore. He's a very good QB, who can't stay healthy. That makes it even less likely a GM is going to make a trade when it's possible Romo won't make it to the season opener without an injury.

Sucks for them.... Everyone wants to stick it to us that we are in "cap hell" yet the Texans are by the look of their ownerships eyes are in their "window" and just need their QB

Just give us a 3rd and lets all move on with our offseasons

Their defense will still be nasty with Watt, Clowney and Mercilus. And if they add a legitimate QB, they'll be set. Basically they'll be one of the favorites if they add Romo.

I think the deciding factor on whether Romo is traded on released is based on which team needs to complete the deal first to address their remaining free agent needs. It looks like Houston is in a holding pattern with other free agents until they get the Romo situation resolved. At some point, Dallas will need to bring in a backup QB (likely McCown) but will need to have Romo off the roster for that to happen.

Define need, because I see us as having between 8-10 million in cap space and the free agent market more or less dried up.

The last numbers I saw had you guys at 3.3 million in cap space. But fine, even if you gave 8-10 million, Romo is scheduled to carry a 24.7 million cap hit in 2017, no responsible team is going to carry that for a backup QB. Especially when a player can come available later that could fill a need.

Um they don't take that cap hit
They take the 14 million base salary, which will easily be redone with a new team, we have 11 million and we haven't bothered with dez and others contracts with restructures. Romo regardless will be gone next year so we should have over 40 million in cap

According to overthecap, it's $8.1 million under, so there definitely is not a "need" to release him. We likely wouldn't need any more than $3 million to sign our rookies and we could restructure a few other contracts if there was a vet CB we wanted to sign.

As far as carrying his salary, it does not become guaranteed until week 1 of the regular season, and yes he's a risk to get injured is training camp and preseason, but that is not until August. The Texans almost assuredly will to have their QB on the roster before Mini camps, so I would not assume a trade is not happening until we approach the post draft mini camps.
