I was a bit bored and wanted to gage the android use on our boards. If you have an Android device (phone or tab), could you post what it is and your experience with it?

Are you happy w/ the phone
What version of Android are you using
What phone
What are some of your favorite Apps
Do you Root/Rom your device
What ROM are you running

Me:

Phone: HTC ATT Inspire 4G
Love the phone - Super easy to root/customize/updates/config
Rooted: Android Gingerbread 2.3.3
ROM: Android Revolution HD 5.2.3
Favorite Apps: Rom Manager-Evernote-Hulu Plus-Star Traders-Deadly Dungeons-XDA Premium-SetCPU-SUFBS-Amazon MP3

I absolutely love it.

  • Homerun Battle 3D
  • NYC Bus and Subway Maps
  • Password Safe Lite
  • SpeedXGalagus (Galaga type game)
  • Advanced Task Killer
  • Amazon MP3
  • Astro Panel (New)
  • Astro Tools
  • Astonomy Picture of the Day (sets background)
  • Chess Free
  • Clear Sky Droid (tells you if the skies will be cloudy, an Astronomy thing)
  • ConnectBot (Telnet / SSH client)
  • ES File Explorer (a really nice file manager)
  • Flash Player 10.3
  • Gmail App
  • Google Books
  • Google Goggles
  • Google Maps
  • Google Sky
  • Google+
  • GPS Essentials
  • HBO GO
  • Jewellust
  • Jewels
  • Klondike Solitaire

  • OpenTable
  • Robo Defense
  • Scrambled Net (major kick *** game, ported from Linux's KNetWalk)
  • SkEye
  • Stargazing Log
  • Unblock Me Free
  • xScope (best web browser on Android that I know of)
  • Youtube

I've had my Nexus One for almost a year and a half. I had plan to keep it for about a a year and a half to two years. Honestly though, right now I don't see another Android phone on the market that I would rather have. Many feel cheaply made with light plastic that seems like it would crack if you dropped it. Or it's so over bloated with garbage that it makes me want no part of it. (I heard the Thunderbolt was really nice, but bloated all to hell by Verizon)

My Nexus One is still fast and does everything like video, HBO GO, games, etc. Not to mention it is very well built. At this point I have no reason to upgrade to any other phone.

The other thing I like about it is it big enough, but not gigantic like some of the newer phones.

Droid X

Love it... except when I'm using the maps on it while driving and it decides to reset itself.

My favorite app by far is SNesoid... I get to play all the SNES games I could ever want, I'm playing Chrono Trigger right now.

Also, Zombie, Run! is fun.

HTC Thunderbolt.

Bad battery life. 8 hours max on 4g, 12 hours max on 3g.
I usually work at 430 am so I'm up 17-19 hours a day and would like to not have to plug in my phone at the nearest charger.

I recently found an app called "2x battery" that turns off data connections when you turn your phone off, but syncs all data every 15 minutes (or more or less often, you can choose). Still can get phone calls.
With that app, on 4g, my phone lasts about 10-11 hours and on 3g lasts about 15-17 hours.

Favorite apps:

Handcent
Drudge
Bookmark Home (acts like a home launcher except for bookmarks, awesome)
Album Art Grabber
Craigslist
FlexT9 Text Input
Swype (fastest way to text. period)
Go!Chat (Facebook chat, since facebooks chat on their app sucks)
HeyTell (like a walkie talkie)
Ringdroid (make a ringtone out of your mp3's)
SkyDroid (free golf gps, works very well)
SoundHound
TubeMate (best app of all so far. isn't on market for obvious reasons but i can take ANY video off of youtube and download the audio and save it as an MP3 and stores directly into my Music manager)
Widget Locker
Wave Launcher

I haven't rooted yet as I don't want to wipe all my data. Another reason is that I'm waiting for HTC/Verizon to release the Gingerbread update and see how that improves performance and battery life. If it doesn't help that much, I will root.

You might want to try and check out Z4root. It used to give you temporary root of your phone. It went back to stock once you rebooted it.

You can use Z4 to remove a crap tone of bloatware on your device.

BTW-move all your phone data to your SDcard. You won't lose anything.

I immediately root all of my new phones out of the box.

These ROMS nowadays are 100x better/tunes than what the MFG supports.

LG Optimus V - rooted it, but can't remember what or the version
APPS - Y5K (I think) battery saver, app killer, dolphin hd, can't remember what else off the top of my head (haven't used it in a while since it's CDMA, and I'm not in the US). I've got an app that allows me to make calls, etc free over wifi or 3g (so I don't use any minutes). Can't remember the name at the moment either. $24/month (technically $25, but callingmart can usually get it for $24). No tax, 300 minutes, unlimited txt, and unlimited data (although I heard they cap it around 3Gb)

Nook Color - rooted it, has Gingerbread I believe since at the time, Honeycomb was still too unstable (or vice versa, again, don't have it in front of me, so I can't remember). Tons of games, etc.

sorry, this just shows just what terrible memory I have.

I still own a blackberry. The phones are too small to be functional for me, mostly. I wouldn't surf nor play games. I would rather tote my laptop around than do that.

But I assume I'll have a smart phone soon enough, just because it consolidates having many things.

I mean, just look at the irig now and then tell me in a few years what it will be like playing all thru your phone?

The cameras are pretty cool. The apps for banking make it a snap. Stuff like this that I wish was simply on the mac book pro, but the divided market makes them money so the apps are not integrated into their computers' OS well, if at all.

My wife has a smart phone, and Iphone to be exact. I use it when we travel and stuff, but I still don't see how they've gotten to be such a mainstream item in our culture.

Only using CWM at the moment.

I like it, but the screen is so-so in terms of res and viewing angles.

XBMC remote to control my softmodded original xbox.
WiiMote to use Wii motes for the emulators.
Wifi analyzer
Opera
Google Music
Dropbox
Root Explorer
Emulators (various ones)
SMB Server running so I can access it over wireless with Ubuntu, quite nice actually :)

Bunch of other stuff I can't remember :p

Nice little tablet. I had the Streak 5 a couple of months back. Good phone and real-estate size for doing things on the net n such. There was always an issue w/ the volume that just irritated me to death. It was never loud enough when playing music in the car. It always seemed muzzled.

Blackberries are smartphones...but I'm assuming more of the touchscreen type smartphones.

I know this is an Android thread, but I actually like my blackberry torch. It allows the comfort of a real keypad, while I get used to the touch screen.

My director loves his Blackberry. I keep trying to talk him into a new android phone, but he ain't buyin it.

We have a BEZ server at the state +pay for 80% of his phone/data pkgs, so I get why he doesn't want to switch.

I love the keypad. And this blackberry I've had for so long. It has to be one of the first versions made. But yeah, I don't use the smartphone features because I don't pay for the service right now.

Maybe if you have a blackberry, but if you have an Android phone already you will want to commit suicide.

I suggest you commit suicide for owning one now. ;)
