Fat Andy is a moron when it comes to game coaching. But that was the right thing to do there. Kicking the FG is risky in that it can be blocked. And making it only increases the lead to 11 which is still just two scores -- a TD, two pointer, onside kick and a long FG (which the NO kicker had shown was quite possible). Not a highly likely situtation, but not impossible.
Since the previous pass play had fallen incomplete, the Eagles couln't run the clock out like they did last week when Westbrook took a knee (and guaranteed the win). So the best play there was to go for the TD and put the the game out of reach.
Also, it wasn't Fat Andy doing the smart thing last week. It was Jon Runyan. And Westbrook for agreeing with Runyan and doing it. Trust me, Fat Andy doesn't have the presence of mind under the pressure of a clock to think that clever. Witness the silliness after the final interception when he kept on calling pointless timeouts. If Fat Andy just delegated play calling decisions completely to someone else, the Eagles would be a very dangerous team. If I were Lurie, I'd lock Andy in a closet once the game started (with a TV), let him out for halftime, and then lock him back up to till the games ends.
