Another Angle on Kris Richard?

Ya know - I'm not coming out as for or against Jason as HC. Y'all know I think the role of HC is overdone anyway but, here's an interesting point:

We all seem to be enamoured with Kris Richard and I must admit, he does seem to be a guy who's got a ton going for him. I love his fire and intensity and that he's worked wonders with this secondary is unquestionable. He also does a good job in taking some responsibility for calling the overall defensive signals from what I understand. This is a credit to Marinelli if Richard is handling the lion's share of those duties.

And this is what I toss out there - we're all over Richard for HC but none of us know if he can function well in that capacity. He's never done it after all so there's zippo for a track record. I don't know and really don't have an opinion but, the overwhelming sentiment here seems to go in that direction. I just wonder why based on the fact that Kris is a complete unknown as a HC.

Thoughts?

It ultimately boils down to this: we have a known commodity of an (according to some) average HC currently, despite his record and the respect he's spoken of among the NFL (media not included).

Many fans are willing to take the risk on Richard being a better than average HC. I'm assuming most of this is based on the job he's done with the secondary, along with his passion for the game and his apparent ability to connect with his players.

Everyone has to start somewhere. You just have to be smart and make the right OC/DC choices and player development

Can he get along with Jerry as HC.? Becuz Jerrah is the de-facto HC.

We all know it.

If the rumor of moving Garrett to GM and Richard as HC is true..

can that succeed?

I think it can, but expect some growing pains for Richard as HC, especially if Linehan is still here.

Obviously, JG has a knack for getting along with JJ. In the scenario you outline, I'm thinking Garrett could be a buffer between JJ and the sidelines. I know I've had had instances where the most important thing I could accomplish was to keep the corporate suits at bay while the guys responsible for actually getting the work done ... actually got it done.

It's a strange world we live in ...

Making decisions for the wrong reasons through a broken process means likelihood of success is low. You may luck out once in a while (like Jerry did with Cooper) but the chances are low.

The same broken process that hired Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett as HCs now is going to be used to promote Garrett to GM and Richards to HC. Therefore I don't have a lot of hope for any sort of long term success if this happens. It may work but I wouldn't count on it

#1 What he has done with this Defense
#2 The respect he has earned from the team
#3 His passion....Did you all see that pregame scuffle he had with the Eagles where we had our backs against the wall with a losing record. In my mind that moment lit a fire in the team and brought the passion, drive and kill mentality to the team. Kris is a guy I want around, and in charge.

From his bio, he's never actually run anything in his life. Maybe that's true for a lot of coordinators. Maybe. But it's fair to wonder if he could run a team effectively.

Wade was and is a great DC. Not a good HC.

Wade never had any fire in his coaching

I'll that the active HC that is 6th in winning percentage and has given us 3 consecutive winning seasons under what seemed to be impossible circumstance. I have no idea what Kris will be as a HC and I believe that is why he is not a HC already and has never been offer that role....including his recent interviews.

Our current HC has also had some of the most star studded rosters I can dream of and Madden agreed.

Usually with a all star roster you should be able to build and maintain a lead.
