Report: Ravenna's Todd Herremans will miss Eagles' season opener with broken foot

by Brian VanOchten | The Grand Rapids Press Friday August 28, 2009, 3:15 PM

Todd Herremans of Ravenna, the starting left guard for the Philadelphia Eagles, will miss the NFL regular-season opener with a broken foot, according to published reports.
He was scheduled to undergo surgery Friday to repair a stress fracture in his left foot, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
The injury, sustained early in training camp, forced Herremans, a fifth-year pro from Saginaw Valley State, to miss the Eagles' first three preseason games. The team initially thought it was a stress reaction in the foot, but a magnetic resonance imaging test this week revealed the fracture.
Eagles coach Andy Reid said Herremans should miss the first two regular-season games.
"He'll miss a couple games here," Reid said. "We'll see how the surgery goes."

BTW: TWO games my foot (again: sorry, just too easy) I bet this compromises/screws up the season for him. Ask Kyle Kosier, Yao Ming and others how easy it is to recover from a break in your foot: it takes a LONG time usually...............

If he winds up having the issues that Kosier did with his foot last year this could turn out to be much worse for them then one regular season game.

If they put a plate it to stabilize it then he should be able to play on it in 2+ weeks. But you're right. Stuff often happens and after two weeks it'll still be sore most likely.

Couldn't agree more guys: when you're 300lbs or thereabouts, you just don't recover from stuff like this in two weeks; he COULD but I seriously doubt it. Feet are underrated and very important as we found out last year w/ Kosier and Felix.

That's OK, I think we're all just glad that Todd didn't have a hemorrhoid problem... :D

Maybe we could ship them Proctor to fill in for him while he is out.

Sounds like a hell of a good idea to me... I like the way you think...

The Boys should be generous, settle for a sixth round pick in return...

Generous would be settling for a half-eaten milk-sogged Oreo cookie. Highway robbery would be a sixth round pick for Proctor, but I won't look a gift pick in the mouth.

Technically maybe. I can't help but think that these guys need more time for it to truly be ready for what they need to do. 300+ lbs pounding on those little metatarsals as well as other players occasionally landing on the foot. It may be "stable" after a few weeks, but fully healed and ready to handle the demands of an NFL lineman...I'm not convinced of that.
