obviously its shocking to everyone that he was available at that pick....and I'm ecstatic. a few things i haven't heard too many mention...
1) Dez may prove to be the biggest steal of this draft
2) Dez very well may have won the heisman had he not gotten unjustly suspended. He had already compiled a more impressive highlight film that most if not all of the actual heisman finalists and he would've gotten 8-9 more games. He also already had two PR for TDs in only 4 games in addition to his highlight reel TD catches. His offensive stats were also going to add greatly to his case. He would've easily finished with 1200 yards and 10-15 TDs. If Dez won the Heisman, he would've been a top 8 pick easily.
3) Dez is a TO-clone (except that he is also a great PR and hopefully without the 'tude). Dez will drop an occasional easy ball or run a bad route (see Houston game) but he will also make the miraculous catch look routine. He is a yards after catch monster (like TO) and he's a nightmare to bring down for DBs (like TO). He's physical and imposes his will on DBs and easily beats press and jamming (like TO). One thing he may do better than TO is winning jump balls. He is going to bully a lot of DBs.
I have to say I've been pretty critical of Dez and I admittedly would not have been a big fan of trading WAY up for him. But where we got him with the weapons we already have....should be entertaining and exciting. I hated our 2009 draft but this draft had me at "Dez", esp at 24.
