Another Doofus

It's actually the first time I've ever read a sports writer totally discredit himself by stating the Cowboys of the 90's were "over-rated". Usually, they say that the only reason the team was SO dominant was because of "the trade". But over-rated? First time.

It's really too stupid to even consider. Those so-called overrated teams beat the best teams of their era. The Cowboys had to overcome the Skins and their Hog Offence, the West Coast Offense of the 49ers, the Giants D with Lawrence Taylor, the Eagles with Reggie White and Defensive guru Buddy Ryan and then shutdown the high-powered Bills Offense, the K-Gun.

The Cowboys were well-balanced on both sides of the ball. We could win a grind-it-out game or a shoot out. We could pressure offenses and we could beat teams with special teams. I'll go so far as to say that there hasn't been a team as balanced offensively as the Cowboys since the 90s. Name one?

To suggest the Cowboys were overrated is so ridiculous it should generate even a blip in the writer's email folder. But, unfortunately, many Cowboys fans will respond, justifying future articles aimed only at enflaming the well-populated Cowboys Nation.

Which NFL team has had the great overall point differential in the last 50 years? If it wasn't the 2007 Patriots, they had to be close.

That didn't win them a Superbowl in the end.
Assumed he was referring to who had the most points in the championship game won, uh, won the game and was therefore champion. Hence, the tongue-n-cheek.
Did I misread?

Ignorance is bliss.......

Don't argue with stupid. Stupid is, stupid does......

He wrote an article and through in "over-rated Cowboys of the 90's" to get a reaction. Hits to his article. Don't feed the animals

Just looking to defend his theory/statistical analysis. Guess our 90's Cowboys bucked his trend to much for his liking.

Interesting that in a round about way, the article somewhat varifies my own thought on why those teams were so great.

As I see/saw it, the running game consistancy is what set those Cowboy teams apart.
Our defenses of that era were excellent, but not dominating. Same for our passing game, excellent but exactly prolific.

But the running game consistancy. This is something that is very difficult to measure. Not much to do with YPC. It had to do with short yardage, goal line and running when the opposition knew we wanted to or needed to.

That Cowboy team was the best I'd ever seen in that regard. And the disparity betwen what they did in the run game and the average NFL team was doing at the time was HUGE.

When are we fans going to learn that writers and commentators love to say things negatively about the Cowboys to stir up the denizens of Cowboy Nation, of which their are many.

That's why I just skim over many of these articles anymore. Not that it gets me stirred up [but they do sometimes]. It's just a big waste of time to read certain garbage.

The only stat and fact that is important is the final score, all others are just taking up space.
