Eagles lose Ingram to ACL tear

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 8, 2009 3:40 PM ET

The Eagles' worst fears about rookie tight end Cornelius Ingram's knee injury have been realized: The team announced Saturday that he has torn the ACL in his left knee. Again.

Ingram is the second key Eagle to tear his ACL in camp; middle linebacker Stewart Bradley was the other.

Philly took a calculated gamble by drafting Ingram in the fifth round of April's draft. He was coming off a torn ACL and there was some concern he would need need it operated on again eventually.

The Eagles appeared to be winning the bet all offseason, as Ingram impressed onlookers with outstanding athleticism.

Now they will have to wait until 2010 to see if Ingram can make a contribution to the team and stay healthy enough to play football. Ingram also missed his entire senior season at Florida.

Matt Schobel appears likely to backup starter Brent Celek now, but Schobel has missed all of camp with a calf injury.

The Eagles worked out three free agents at tight end Saturday, and look likely to sign one.

Dang it will be tough for him to bounce back after being out of football for that long.

Screw the Eagles and all, but you just hate to see injuries in the pre-season. Especially for guys like that that haven't even had a chance to take at least one pro snap.

And to suffer a big injury on an already repaired knee...best of luck to Ingram.

.

By 2010, the Eagles are going to need a lot more than a tight end. Hate to see a rookie's dream dashed with a knee injury though.

Got lucky on this one, this is one guy they cannot afford to be out IMO.

Jackson survives hyper-extended knee scare

DeSean Jackson suffered a hyper-extended right knee in Saturday's practice.
Jackson went to the tent to receive treatment and was eventually carted off. It sounds like he survived the scare, however. "I'm all right," he said afterward while giving a thumbs up sign. "No problems." Jackson had been the most impressive player in camp leading up to today's practice.

That sucks for him. ACL's are tough enough to comeback from one time. Now he's trying to come back from a 2nd one, for the 2nd straight year, and on the same knee. That's a pretty bad break for him and likely will derail any shot he has at being a real impact player in the league.
