They tried to improve the safety position but Seattle would not make the trade.

So that was the only option? Vacarro and the guy the Vikings picked up from the Bengals are much better than what we have now. You could have got one of them and even added Earl this offseason and really beefed up that position. We will have tons of cap space and you would not have had to give up any picks.

Another game without an INT for our D. We have been bottom 10 in INTs and PDs for the last 5 years. This deserves more discussion as turnovers are the ultimate equalizer.

We got a key fumble, so we did get a turnover, plus this is a new season and was just the first game of the first full year with a revamped defensive backfield filled with a lot of very young, promising players Heath is the only defensive back that is starting in the same position as the starters at the beginning of 2017. This is not the same defensive backfield as 2-3 years ago, and not even the same one as much of last year. Why the rush to condemn it after one game, and especially in a game where the opposing team was only able to muster 161 passing yards?

16 points. I'll take 16 points given up every week with 0 interceptions all year long

Earl Thomas has an INT already this year, just sayin....

And the Seahawks gave up 329 passing yards and 27 points, including 3 passing TDs, and they lost just like the Cowboys did. The Seahawks defense failed, even with Earl Thomas, while the Cowboys defense kept the Cowboys in the game.

The stuff people will look into to throw out more negative threads.

Next up, we haven’t had a RB that ran for 250 yards in how long?
We haven’t had a QB throw for 8 TD’s ever

So we must suck.

I would have grabbed the honey badger. But are front office likes the guys we have. Let's give them 3 more games. They played well against Carolina.

It'll happen.

On a side note, i'm interested to see how we play Odell. Byron or Chido? More press coverage. Normally you'd see a #1 CB cover him or your #2 on him with help over the top, but we're kind of in a unique position where Byron or Chido could line up over him depending on the side of the field. That actually might be beneficial if it throws him off a bit? I don't know. Just thinking out loud.
OBJ hung 11 catches for 110yds against the Jags secondary. This game will be a good indicator for how much our defense has progressed. Gotta stuff the run and get pressure on Eli.

Cam had 26 attempts and probably less than half went more than 7 yards down field. I'll live with it.

Hard to say that this season is part of a trend when we have a new DB coach and 3 of the 4 positions have new/different starters. Give it time to see if in fact it is or if this group starts reversing that trend.

You have to score points so the opposing offense feels pressure and starts taking more risks.

This is starting to remind me of when we had Qcar and had the #1 defense. Teams knew they could score 17 and it was most likely over so they didn't take any unneeded risk.

I am very interested in this stat as the season progresses. Pressure on the QB *should* generate more opportunities for interceptions and PDs, plus we have Kris Richard. I want to see the performance of these 2 metrics rise significantly this year.

I am hoping that Richard does help us improve in this area. I agree that pressure should help but I believe the issue is deeper than a lack of pressure.

A couple of new parts yes. But running the same overall defensive scheme.

We were 2nd in picks in 2014. But since then, we have been toward the bottom. Our TOP and style of O forced teams to take more chances on O when they had the ball,

Carolina ran the poop out of the ball and hardly threw..our d did just fine..two for sure INTs were dropped but regardless the D wasn't the issue this game..Eli well he likes to air it out so more chances..

Yes we did have 1 good season you are right. But over the last 5 years total we have been putrid. The passes defended stats is offensive.

I'd save this complaint for a month form now.

The defense did their job.
