Silver Star digest is reporting that Dallas took an
extensive look at Arkansas QB Matt Jones, but not for the QB position but for a TE or WR. The article went on to say the guy is too slow for a WR so that leaves TE but then the guy needs to bulk up from his current 240 lbs to be efffective at that position.
We are already set at TE and this "look see" at this guy seems odd to say the least. Seems like a waste of time to speculate on him. No disrespect to any Arkansas 'Boys fans intended.

If I remember correctly, Parcells likes the idea of adding a TE every draft.

I was saying in another thread yesterday that Parcells is enamored with Matt Jones...

This interest today doesn't surprise me...

He's an Antonio Gates caliber athlete at that size.

And we'll never have enough TE's. They're more valued in this offense than WR's. Look at the Billichek and the Patriots ... they've spent two first round draft picks on TE's, and none on WR's.

Looks like he has the frame to get to 255-260, but can he block and be affective as a TE? He's played some WR before, and looks to have the speed and hands for it. Talk about a tweener. It'd be really nice if he could at least be a decent blocker in certain situations, and then run routes at the TE position or line up outside in other plays. Could be very versatile.....and maybe a better QB than Vinny :p

Is Campbell still under contract for next year?

He may never be more than functional as a TE, but Antonio Gates aint exactly Mark Bravaro. Its bad enough when you have one TE who is a matchup nightmare for defensive coordinators, but two is pretty much unschemable .. which is what I'm sure Billichek has in mind for Watson and Graham.

I certainly don't mind Dallas continuing to churn the TE roster at the #3 spot. I'm assuming Campbell comes back. Having 2 guys who can stretch the field doesn't hurt. Jones would be faster than Witten.

That said, this team has more pressing needs at other positions on day 1.

He can block... I remember him leading sweeps on several occaisions...

Late Day 2, He's nothing more than a nice development player wth serious ? marks.

JJ without Parcells would drfat him in round 2 in days past.

Look at Heath Miller, Alex Smith as Day 1 draft prospects.

And yes on Parcells, after drafting Ryan he said he likes drafting TE's and he'd draft another one next year too!

I've seen a few Hogs games, don't really remember him doing that, but do remember him having some serious speed once he hits those long strides. I agree with Nors though, not worth taking early or probably even mid rounds since he's a project.

Willie Walden, Montana. You can get him late and he is a load. Looked really nimble during I-AA playoffs to me. He will be a project, but could be really good. He was a top HS recruit that transferred to MT from Oregon.

Oh I agree... there is a chance someone may take him with a 3 ... but he is day 2 material...

Seems like a lot of hype is being made of these Senior Bowl practices. If he plays well in the game, who knows, may go the 1st day. I'd still say it's too high with so little to go on. I surely wouldn't mind him later on though, and I've been thinking about him as a WR in the pros for awhile.

Sean Ryan and Brett Pierce aren't exactly irreplaceable. If we got a better prospect that proved more versatile, and ultimately just as apt in the run game, he might make a nice replacement for Campbell later on as he ages.

The league is going to 6-5 260 pound receiving threats. Pats drafted Graham and Watson and had Fauria on roster.

I like a TE that can do H-Back and break out split wide on a corner.

He'd be a great QB if he could play against Texas every week.
