Another guy we need to be patient with

Someone who is VERY important to the success and improvement of the Dallas Cowboys in 2026 is also someone that will also require some patience: Rookie Defensive Coordinator Christian Parker.

I really like what we’ve seen so far in TC and PS from Christian Parker. He is a welcome defensive breath of fresh air around here. The players clearly like him and have shown a dedication to getting Parker’s scheme down and are working in becoming an excellent defense.

But wow…the pressure and pre-accomplishment anointing taking place around here here with Parker…before he’s even coached a single regular season game as a defensive coordinator….is just amazing. The transformation of our defense will take some time…and patience.

Why is patience required regarding CP?

• Being a great DC is hard. Harder IMO than being an effective OC because the rules favor the offense. It’s why there are very few truly great defenses in the NFL.
• Being a DC is much harder than being a position coach because it requires teaching and coordinating 11 players to work as a hand and glove unit, not a bunch of individuals.
• Being a great DC takes some time to learn how to adjust the scheme to the ways offenses adjust and attack your scheme.

None of the above is a knock on Parker. I’m thrilled he’s here. I believe he will be successful. But I also believe that most great NFL coaches all have a learning curve. And CP will too.

I hope Cowboys fans can show CP some patience. Like100% of all new DCs, he’s going to have some learning curve moments where mistakes will be made. But it’s a long season and I believe in his talent, toughness and ability to become what he was hired to be.

There's a difference between a rising young talent and a proven talent. Parker is now trying to become a proven talent. Let’s give him some time to prove it before anointing him as an immediate NFL HC headed to Canton for a gold jacket fitting.

I've had no patience for only 2 coaches and that's flus and garrett

I don't expect cp to come in and give us a top 10 unit

I expect us to be around 15-18 which is fine because if that's what we were last season we would've won 12 games

I agree. I’m not asking for any more patience for this front office. That is long gone. But I do think we owe some to a guy like Parker.

This D has been awful too many times in this 30 yr drought. It may take more than a training camp to make it decent.

All for this. I'm sure it's going to take some time for the defence to get in gear. So, if they struggle out the gate, it wouldn't be that surprising. Especially considering the last two seasons. But, I think later in the season, the defence should be making the turn towards being really good imo.
