Another power ranking

We are 16th.

I have to say, I am really surprise that it seems a majority of the power rankings think we are a middling team. It can't be a talent thing because we have a pretty talented roster. Is it Garrett? Is it that despite the platitudes we hear from the media on Dak that in fact, they don't really believe in him?

Power rankings mean zero in terms of what will happen but it's peculiar to me that so many think we just aren't that good a football team.

I am surprised that I don't remember us playing 18 games last season and finishing 11-7.

EDIT: I guess that includes playoffs.

They're just riding chalk. Quarterback I'll assume plays a role, but what has Dallas done recently to give anyone the indication that they are an elite team? I think talent wise the Cowboys can compete with any team in this league going into this season. Look at the Browns. They have them 5th in the AFC and 11th overall. If they go to the AFC championship or SB, then they'll be top 3 with the exact same team. Why? Because they haven't proven anything yet. So I don't put much stock in anything these sites have to say because they're not telling me anything I don't already know. It's just a mix of who was good recently. No way the Cowboys are 8th or 9th in the NFC. If that's the case then there's a major malfunction somewhere within the organization.

I find it more odd so many of these rankings have the Birds significantly higher than Dallas

Yep. I think a serious argument can be made that team are pretty damn close. But Eagles have become a bit of a media darling in recent years especially with the SB win.

Sure, and I get why they aren't ranked 5th. But 16th? That seems to be a bit low.

At this point power rankings are just fan service. Can't get excited nor upset with a ranking that is based on pretty much nothing.

It is too low by far. But we've only had three really good seasons where we could think SB since 1996. In '07, '14, 16, and we got knocked out in the same round every time. How many years is that? Can we blame them? I am looking at this as a '91 to '92 transition. That's what it feels like to me with this defense.

Truth. Kind of typical though. I remember years ago the entire media World declaring them SB prospects for their "Dream Team" right after the draft. They eventually flopped.

Another who cares rankings. But I guess it is off season discussion fodder.
A good 5 or 6 of those teams listed above Dallas is a joke.
But also a few teams below us should be ranked higher than where they are also.

Normally I don't look at every ranking out there, but don't have a lot to do right now. LOL.

My theory of ranking teams at this point is, all the teams in the divisional playoff round, should be the top 8. Unless, they lost a lot of players or did not draft well. Or say a team had a great off season of FA's and the draft to jump them up a few spots.
Like I can see the Browns and 49ers moving up that list, as SF gets their QB back.

Bt we had a good offseason and decent draft, no way we should be at 16.

We’ve been ranked fairly high in past rankings with Garrett. I think a lot has to do with the unknown at OC.

No reason to get upset about something that will change as the season approaches and all throughout. This is all fan fodder know and no one will go back in May and hold a power ranking against anyone because no one cares. In a sport with a playoff system to settle it, a power ranking is nothing. Hell, the AP college rankings don't even matter any longer with a playoff system in place and the committee doesn't care about outside power rankings.

However, I think 16 is really low with a team that didn't lose any key players and seems to have a very key player in Yosemite returning. If they'd said the learning curve on a neophyte OC will be a set back but all that said was if Yosemite's back, that could be the best OL. Best OL's get 16th with a top 3 RB and leading rusher last season?

And this will evolve as the Cowboys play half their games against teams ranked above them.

King "mailed in" that analysis of the Cowboys. I think they're higher than some of those teams above them.

King has been "mailing it in" for years. That's why he's now irrelevant, and reduced to nothing more than a PFT leech.
