The Dallas Cowboys added him to its coaching ranks with an understanding that he'd be under consideration as HC while Jerra assembles his new staff.

9 out of 10 others would have said, "Hail no! I only want to be considered as HC! I am not gonna hang out while you decide if you want me or not as HC. Get me my agent! I can't work under these conditions. Makeup! Fill my water glass with that Evian water!"

Garrett understand that his time will come.

Sounds to me as if Garrett is mainly concerned with football and not a title or his immediate status.

Well done, Senor Garrett!

I hope you get Rivera as your defensive counterpart and a dynamic guy as your HC.

And if you are named HC, you'll be a steady and intelligent hand at the wheel.

I'm not sure Garrett is in position to demand anything. He's a hot young prospect, but he hasn't really accomplished anything yet. That being said, the consensus seems to be that he will have success as an OC. If he is given the HC job right away, it would be interesting to see if he is a motivator or not. His intelligence is without question, but can he stand in front of a locker room full of millionaire players and say the things that get them going on Sunday? I know the players must motivate themselves, but it helps to have master mover of men, a la Jimmy Johnson.

For that matter, neither do Sparano, Norval Turner, Wade Phillips, et. al have room to demand much.

They all have varying degrees of talent but none has exactly performed HOF work.

I think a HC job for Garrett at this time is not right. Even OC seems a bit of a stretch for him at this point of his career. But we could do a lot worse than Garrett.

Dream team: Stoops HC, Garrett OC, Rivera DC.

He may be a great Xs and Os guy but he sure won't be able to scout players quite like Parcells. Meh. Last years draft is still making me lose sleep at night.

He is apparently a hot commodity in the NFL and with college coaches...

From the DMN -

1- The Cowboys and then newly-named head coach Dave Campo tried to hire Garrett in 2000 when he became a free agent after spending eight years with the Cowboys. Instead, Garrett decided to make several more millions playing four more season with the Giants.

2- In 2004, Norv Turner tried to hire Garrett as his quarterbacks coach in Oakland. Garrett decided to milk one more year playing in the NFL, splitting his final year (2004) with Tampa Bay and Miami.

3- In 2005, Nick Saban quickly added Garrett to his staff when he decided to finally call it quits playing. Then offensive coordinator Scott Linehan tells the story about meeting Garrett for the first time at the Senior Bowl that year, and that 10 hours later they hired him.

4- In 2006, Linehan, St. Louis' newly-named head coach, tried to bring Garrett, with just one year of coaching under his belt, with him as offensive coordinator but was denied permission by the Dolphins.

5- In 2007, after Saban left the Dolphins for the University of Alabama, he wanted Garrett to be the Crimson Tide's offensive coordinator.

6- Butch Davis wanted him in the same capacity at North Carolina.

7- Les Miles wanted him at LSU. No go, said the Dolphins, who had him under contract for another season and at the time were unsure of how they would fill their head coaching vacancy.

8- In 2007, Cleveland tried repeatedly to seek permission to speak with Garrett about its offensive coordinator's position, but the Dolphins told the Browns, hands off.

9- In 2007, Miami's newly-named head coach Cam Cameron offered Garrett an extension to his one-remaining year with the Dolphins as the quarterbacks coach, putting a Thursday deadline on Garrett's decision.

There aren't many names on that list with much credibility.
