I know they get a pass because we won but I will still point them out. Anthony Henry played pretty bad. he wasnt covering very well and he did make that PI on Key that was costly.

However I will point this out.. he stoped Steve Smith on a big 3rd and short. That was his highlight of the day.

Gurode on the other hand didnt get man handled or anything, but He got flagged to many times.

besides them I thought everyone else played good.

That false start on Gurode was absolutely laughable. He's the friggin' center. He can move his head around and wave his arm around pointing out blocking schemes if he wants.

henry was flat out bad...i dont think it was physicall though

his problem i think was that he was always looking for the short routes from keyshawn, not expecting double moves and getting beat up the field. He matched up well with key, just bit on short routes too easily. Other than those 2 plays i thought he played well. VERY solid against the run all night long

that infuriated me too.
The Panthers DL was jumping offsides all night and we got half of THEIR penalties for it.
Gurode was handling a pretty darn good DL though. He wasn't getting beaten, he was getting in his licks. JJ ran right up middle of the Red Sea parting on that TD run. Gurode did a good job IMO. He had a tough job, he and Colombo. The Panther's DL is crazy good.

Did you see what they were flagged for?

Both calls were ridiculous. The holding penalty was a text book block. The defender fell to the ground because Gurode manhandled him. It wasn't even a borderline hold....just a terrible call by the ref. The false start was a joke.

I think both players actually played pretty well. Henry got nailed for (2) PI calls one for 20 and one for 25 yards. (thats not so good) I only remember one off the top of my head. Other than that he gave up (6) catches for 27 yards. (3, 8, 6, 4, 2, and 4 yards respectively and several were against Steve Smith) So including the PIs he was called for he gave up 69 total yards. While at least one came at a inopportune time, I don't think he played all that bad.

I think they called the wrong number on the false start. I think Columbo moved and the official said "65" when he should have said "75".

It appears that the Panthers' players were pointing to Gurode's right and not at him.

two of the three calls on Gurode were bogus...I cant comment on the chop block call since I didnt see it replayed

I have to disagree, Gurode had a tough assignment but did a fine job after getting beat once or twice early. Sorta like how Romo started shaky but played well later.

Likewise Henry plays the run very well most of the time (except against NYG Monday) and is a big asset to the team's run d. I'm ok with him giving up a PI once a game as long as it doesn't lead to TDs or lose us the game. Nobody in this league is perfect, sometimes you have to make allowances for the ability of the other team.

I replayed the play several times but it wasn't caught on the camera, apparently. If anyone has a camera angle that shows it, I'd like to see it. It was called on both Gurode and Julius Jones. It could be one of those situations where Gurode was standing his guy up and Jones, trying to help out, hit the guy low.

I thought Gurode played very well all night.

The chop block call on the first drive on JJ and Gurode was pretty questionable too. The Panthers were blitzing the MLB right behind Jenkins playing DT over center. Gurode stood up Jenkins, Julius stepped up in blitz pickup cut the MLB at the legs and they both happened to fall into legs of Jenkins during the ensuing pile up of bodies. I guess by the rule of the book it qualifies, it certainly wasn't intentional and deserving of a 15 yard personal foul penalty. Roll ups happen all the time accidentally when players fall down or trip. And if anything it was Julius' fault and not Gurode's.

I'll have to re-check that. I didn't look for Colombo on that play, but I was puzzled as to why Gurode would be penalized for a text book block.

Henry did well against the run but again you cant be giving up plays in the air and you cant be getting silly PI calls against you.

CB's that get a lot of tackles normally don't have a good game.

On the one PI call, Henry got beat by Johnson, but made a good decision to haul him down, thus preventing a TD. For the overwhelming bulk of the game, the DB's were doing their job and doing it well. Recevers get the drops for a variety of reasons and maybe we should give Henry and Newman props for not giving up the big play.

As for Gurode, after a couple of mental errors, he settled down quite nicely. The one call, as noted earlier, was a clear officiating error. After a tough week last week, this week was a dramatic improvement against a good team. Try not to look at one or two mistakes. Look at the overall performance and you'll see a solid effort.

Also on the pass that Keyshawn dropped, he beat Henry cleanly for what would have been a touchdown had he caught it. He also beat Newman on the other side, but they didn't call the face-guarding penalty on Newman.

thats because there is no penalty for face guarding
