Anthony Henry might move to Free Safety?

We complain about putting too many cap dollars in our secondary if we draft a FS in round 1. What happens if we put someone with a 13 million dollar signing bonus back there. He hasn't played safety in a long time and now all of a sudden we have the highest paid FS in the league. Not very smart in my opinion.

Price shouldn't matter so long as the player produces.

We have the money, we will have future money. It solves a problem, but does create another hole that we have options to fill with at least.

There is no way it would be smart to move an upper echelon CB to FS and pay him to as CB one of 2 things is going to happen, we release him after 2 years becaus it would be insane to pay the cap number, or we lose him after the contract because he will still want to be paid as a CB. Either way we need a FS. Either draft one, sign one or draft a college corner in the lower rounds and convert him. Not too mention why have a 1/4 of your cap money tied up in 4 guys in the secondary.

Since the money you make on your rookie contract is slotted, I'm not too sure how big a deal a player, fresh out of college, would have with being moved to Safety.

Hunter did, of course, but that was after awhile in the league, and as a late round choice. I'm not sure he got the money he thought he should after logging some decent playing time. If he assumed that he would be cut/traded soon, maybe it made sense for him to get more experience at CB, the higher paying position in Free Agency, then Safety.

Not that it really matters; was a dumb move on his part anyway.

I guess what I'm saying, is that a rookie picked in the first day shouldn't worry about that too much. A Safety will get paid same as a Cornerback in terms of draft slotting, and that player can always try to get paid as a Cornerback when he enters Free Agency for the first time.

Not sure if this was posted yet. But reportedly Jerry Jones has talked about drafting a cornerback in the first round. That might free up Henry to use his big physical body to cover runnging backs, slot recievers and safeties. While Roy Williams can come down and be the 8th man in the box against the run and for blitzing.

I doubt it, Henry is being paid cornerback money

Some fans assume he meant starting cornerback and are forgetting that Jaques Reeves was resigned as the 4th cornerback and would be the logical choice if that were to happen.

also, didn't Reeves practice as the nickel safety in last year's TC? or was that Nate Jones?

Williams is going for cornerback money. I doubt he wants to play free safety, a position which makes less than the corner back position.

also have to think about from the COwboy's point of view, they aren't going to pay a FS, CB money, which is what they'd be essentially be doing if they drafted WIlliams in the 1st and moved him to FS

I see this as 2 scenarios.

1. First round pick starting at CB where he can get help when necessary and Henry starting at FS. Henry is a proven ballhawk and physical tackler with experience who would be a fantastic last line of defense. Pretty much completely frees up Roy W. to do what he's best at.

2. Draft a FS, or go with Davis (who didn't prove much last year when given the opportunity) or possibly Beriault. Roy W. again spends too much time helping out the FS unless Dallas hits the lotto and finds a guy that can come in and produce at a high level immediately. Probably not likely. Henry stays at CB and continues to have groin problems from chasing smaller, quicker WRs around the field.
How many more groin injuries and games lost to injury will Henry, and the coaching staff, take before he is begging to move to FS anyway?
So what if he is the highest paid FS in the league? He's a helluva player who need to be on the field where he can have the most impact.

So you are going to throw him at a position he's never played, covering slot WR's who are almost ALL smaller, quicker receivers, and then search for someone else to try and solidify the corner spot?

Um, NO! Henry played just fine at cornerback, we don't need to create another hole.

I believe on passing downs he will see a lot of Shockey and Cooley and who ever Philly lines up in the slot won't be a small guy.
And Henry played FS in Cleveland for awhile. Its nothing new to him.

To be honest I don't like it...Reeves will be a solid nickel corner when and if Glenn isn't around. Moving him hurts his confidence and takes him away from his position when he's reaching his prime.
