He reminds me a lot of Singletary.

I was just going to type this exact phrase when I saw your post. That is who he reminds me of too when he plays MLB. So I see no reason he can't be a great player. He showed me enough flashes last year.

Happy with his play. Hopefully he gets better and better. We need lbers worse than d lineman.

You're really using the fact that we didn't resign the mediocre and always injured Durant as your argument?

Hitchens is fine but I think he lacks some coverage skills to ever be a great LB. He can hold his own but I certainly don't want to see him covering TE's or RB's down the field. Either way he was a very good 4th round pick and I'm happy to admit I was wrong on him

First off, Durant was not "mediocre" last year when he played. He had some boneheaded plays, but he was no mediocre. He was a good player that we most likely would have tried to retain, but because of Hitchens performance, us letting Durant walk became a lot easier.

He was in his first year, "coverage skills" at the LB position can be worked on.

Yeah, he's an excellent 3rd LB. Nowadays, teams need 2 really good LBs who can play virtually every down of the game (in the base and the nickel). Since most teams only play in their base 40-50% of the time, you need your 3rd LB for that. Hitchens is that guy. He's also someone who could step up into the #2 LB spot if one of the top 2 goes down. We still need one more very good LB. My vote is McClain. I think Hitchens-McClain-Lee can be one of the best LB trios in the league if they can stay healthy and level headed. But even if we signed McClain, we'd need a 4th LB considering Lee's history.

He was #2 in weeks 12 though 16 with Carter being #3. Hitchens started those games and Carter didn't.
