Anthony Spencer has shown a lot in run D and pass coverage

He just hasn't shown a whole lot in rushing the passer. And that is largely due to two pass rush specialists being ahead of him. And him not coming into his own yet.

I hear people say this all the time, fans and reporters alike, about how he's shown very little. No! He's shown a whole lot in run D and in coverage. Do these guys watch the game? You should see him at the POA. Sure he gives up the edge every now and then, but he also bites inside a lot and makes a few more plays on inside runs than Ware does (not to be misconstrued as him being as good a run stopper as Ware is).

He's done so much, he's already been awarded the starting job opposite Ware. A job he'd been given since the end of last season if not for Wade's indulgence in superficial aesthetic to warm up a whiner's hear.

I'm sick of hearing that he hasn't done enough. For the SSOLB, he's done a lot already. He just has to do more in terms of pass rush and keep Ellis on the bench more.

Thank you!

Yes, he's been hurt some, but when he's in the game he usually plays well.... Check out the second Giants game. He even was pretty good as a raw rookie last year ('07) when Ellis was hurt and he was in there before he was really ready.

But brace for Ravens game references, newnation... As if that's the only game he's ever played.

he needs to be more aggressive when tackling and he needs to tackle better.

I think Spencer will do fine this year opposite Ware. I think he's capable of double digit sacks, but maybe not quite this year.

Now, this is a legit criticism. He needs to tackle better in SPACE. He misses quite a few of those. But other than that, I don't think he needs to be more aggressive. He's actually too aggressive at times, especially at the LOS.

true, i just meant it in terms of last season it's like he expected the ball carrier to just go down once he touched him. he's gotta wrap up better and finish the tackle.

The head coach came out after the game and said he called RUN BLITZES on those 2 plays. I actually don't like to argue with the casual fan who doesn't know what he's watching in a play. Spencer wasn't asked to set the edge on those plays, he was told to attack the play (those were obvious run downs so it's not like he got fooled into thinking it was a pass play) and the safeties were already drifted to the spot he was vacating in order to make up for the absence in case ****.

That's why Wade blamed a Saftey whose name he didn't mention in the monday morning PC for going in motion with the TE when he shouldn't have. Keith Davis went in motion with the TE on one of those plays when he should've remained there in order to provide presence to make up for the blitz.

Spencer is the most intriguing piece of the defense, considering his potential.... If it weren't for the injuries, his play most probably wouldn't be questioned in my opinion.

I just wanna see him start. Despite all the crap, Greg has had a solid career with us.

I just think it's time to get the young guy more on the field.

Thats what I have thought. His rookie year he looked really good rushing the passer when given the opportunity. Then he got hurt at the start of last year, missed some time, and got set back a little. I never got all the negativity toward him. I think he will be a fine player and break out this year.

Exactly! He actually is a better pass rusher than a run support or coverage player. Those are the reasons why he isn't in on 1st and 2nd downs and Ells has been. I agree he's ready to take over the starting job and will be successful, but not sure where this poor pass rush and strong run support observation came from. It's actually more so the opposite.

If he stays healthy all yr, I'm thinking 8-10 sacks is very realistic for this season. Especially with all the attention Ware is going to get.

my favorite run d moment for spencer was when he overjumped ap lay and let a guy run 80 yards for a touchdown against baltimore.

that was so awesome. made me proud to be a cowboy fan...

he sucks. bring in someone else.

If Greg Ellis can get 12.5 in 07 and 8 in 08.. Spencer should match them numbers at least..

I'm pulling for Spencer but sorry I don't think his play has been great and I don't think he has shown the ability to play the run very well. He shows spurts here and there but has not looked like a dominate player by any means. I think Spencer is capable of better than what he has done but he is not there yet.

Anyone who crucifies him for that ONE game needs to get a life. That one game was about recognition and that will come with more game experience.

The guy has a great first step so his pass rush will come. For the most part, he seems to hold up the POA against the run failry well so that's a plus.
