Not too long ago he looked like a bust. Everybody wanted Greg Ellis back.

And while he's far from dominant, you can see him getting better. Instead of being one step too slow, he's now maybe half a step slow....and getting better. He's thinking less and reacting more. I think he's gaining confidence the more he plays.

There's still lots of room for improvement, but he's taken some positive strides since last year. Hopefully he will keep improving. We need him to continue improving.

He pretty good in the overall sense too. Pass defending, run stopping, and pass rushing. Not that he doesn't still make mistakes, but that's more to inexperience.

The only way to really get better is to make mistakes and learn. By year's end he will be doing a fine job here.

gotta play in the TO factor--To was good but really annoying and old and divisive--ditto for Ellis--would rather have the upside and the quiet

The ghost of TO. Will it haunt us forever?:laugh2:

I agree it was time for Ellis to move on. He wanted to leave, so good riddance. Spencer will have a breakout game real soon. Our pass rush is getting better by the week.

He's improved as the season has gone on. He looks much quicker than a month ago, and I'd guess that's just him understanding things better.

He still looks like a fighter who is controlling his opponent, but doesn't know how to finish him. Maybe he'll get there before too long.

We sure need him to.

I only think about him because I'm so glad he's gone
one of best moves JJ every made
every time I see him scream, "They still love to hate me!" on NFL network I'm reminded of his ego and how much i don't miss him

That is true. But it shopuld also apply to Bobbie Carpenter. But will people give him that chance...no they won't....
Wade said he had a very good game against Gonzales. But all people want to say is he got blown up against someone...on 1 play.

IMO Rookies need to play, I think Ogletree should have seen the field more often already.

Ofcourse at this point it appears that getting more game time should have started for Miles Austin alot earlier as well.

While Bobby may have had a decent game against Gonzalez (I won't proclaim to know because I didn't isolate on Bobby at all), I think (personally) that Sensebaugh was a real difference maker in the lack of the TG show.

Carpenter's problem is he's soft. There's no denying that. Anything that requires a collision, Carpenter will undoubtedly lose or find a way to avoid it. Watch him blitz. Watch him at the point of attack filling a running lane. It's embarassing.

If Wade says Carpenter did a good job defending Gonzales in pass coverage, then I'll have to believe him. So, good job Bobby.

I agree about Spencer. I also think that he will benefit from Ware recovering from his foot problems and demanding more attention.

Sensenbaugh looked great, glad to have him back out there on the field.

Also, not saying Bobbie has arrived. Because Spencer the last few games has been better. I still believe Carpenter will not be here next year. But just hope people to be apply this theory of "playing time makes you better" to all players.
And I'm only saying this about Carpenter / Gonzales, is because that is what Wade said in a PC. I did not single out to watch his play only either.

I still have hope he will get it going and start making impact plays. I agree I think is getting better and hopefully as they season continue those plays will start coming because we will need them as we get into the tough part of the schedule

He just needed a little bit more time, that's all. There's always a learning curve when you go from being a backup to being thrust into the limelight as the starter and are expected by fans to get 6 sacks a game Madden-style.

It should apply to Carpenter? HE's been here what? 4 years now? I'm just convinced he doesn't like football. There was a point when Carpenter showed flashes. Here and there. He's not even doing that and frankly he should be doing a little more than showing flashes anyway. I don't think Carpenter is as bad as we think he is. Its just we expect for him to be a 1st round talent and he isn't.

Watch Carpenter during the Falcons second TD and you will find exactly what you're talking about. He looked almost afraid of getting his nose dirty.

At this stage he does not look worthy of a 2nd rd pick. Carpenter has been a big disappointment no other way to say it. As you said he is in year 4 and is just not making plays for this team. I seriously doubt he will be here next season I just hope we can get something out of him this season. I have nothing against Carpenter and was not upset with the pick even though I wanted Chad Greenway in that draft.

I don't even see the guy making plays on special teams. Ahh man. You hate to write off a guy you spent a 1st rounder on but this is a prime example of why I wasn't against the Roy trade. He hasn't panned out YET but if you ever get the chance to trade for a player in his 20's who has a pro bowl under his belt you have to do it. You just have no clue on what these guys are.

Could be worse at least we did not draft JaMarcus Russell :laugh2:

Thing with draft picks no one knows for sure how any of them will do. Thankfully Carpenter was a later pick in the 1st so it is not as big of a killer for us than a high 1st rd pick
