There were several interesing ones this year including Mel Ingram, Bruce Irvin, Shea McClellan, Mercilus Whitney, Nick Perry, that kid from Clemson but all had some warts. We went after the CB instead and I don't know if that was the right call yet. I actually still think our best move may have been to sit still and draft Quinton Coples or to drop down to the mid-20s and get one of those OLBs that we liked. But that's all in the past.
The first place you usually look is on your roster. I think Butler isn't going to be the guy since Ryan won't put him on the field even though he makes plays as soon as he gets there. I don't know about Wilber since we haven't seen enough of him. I'm skeptical about him since he is small for a 3-4 OLB and doesn't have a pass rushing pedigree. I think he may have been drafted just for a chance to develop him and use him on special teams as he profiles better as a 4-3 OLB.
FA is a hard place to get a pass rushing OLB. They rarely hit the market during their peak years so I don't think that will work for us. The other FA possibility would be to find a veteran pass rush specialist for the 4-man DLs and use some combination of Albright/Wilber for the base defense.
Now the 2013 draft is supposed to be a very good draft for OLBs so I hope one falls to us. If one who has the potential to be a 10-sack player falls close to us we should probably just trade up to nab him and not mess around too much. It is extremely integral to this defense to bring pressure off the edges and Spencer just isn't getting the job done for us.
