My daughter got this pop up and then it started doing a scan of her pc. She stopped it before it got to 100%.

When I looked in the history Library it said

Probably one of those new pleasant spyware pieces they got out there.

They infect your computer and then sell you the software to get rid of it, all the while installing more and more adware, malware, spyware so they can get you to spring for the upgrades at a later date.

Back before I got a Mac, I used a this program here.

I can't vouch for the program at this time but it used to clear my system up pretty well.

Whenever I'm looking for new software or items, I check CNET for reviews. Looks like this software is still a decent pickup. Pretty sure you can download an older version for free. You have to pay to get the newest software but I think they let you get past versions for free whenever they release something new.
