The old argument for not moving the Cowboys out of the NFC East was that the league needed those traditional rivalries. I would argue you that with how popular the NFL is now, we don't really need the established rivalries. Second point I would make is that whoever the Cowboys played annually would quickly become a rivalry and the shorter distances would increase the likelihood of fans traveling to those destinations each year.

I doubt the NFL wants two Texas teams (markets) in the same conference or the two Los Angeles teams in the same conference.

Dallas to New Orleans is less than an 8 hour drive and about a 90-minute flight. That would quickly become a solid rivalry IMO.

An easier fix would just be swapping Dallas with Carolina.

NFC East - Carolina, NYG, Philadelphia, Washington

NFC South - Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans, Tampa Bay

I'm actually for realignment. I've always thought it a bit of a disadvantage for Dallas to play in a cold-weather division...especially considering that the NFL more often than not figures out away to let those Northern teams play us at home during the second meeting.

Eventually it’s going to happen. Might be 5 years from now, but if they talk about it long enough, they’ll do it.

I like being in the NFC East simply for the rivalry aspect. But logically that causes some travel disadvantages with distance and time zones not to mention unnatural weather differentials.

Another thingy here ... how the heck do weenie states like NY (Buffalo ... really?) or Fla get 3 teams and Texas only get 2 ? San Antonio is the 10th largest metro area in the US.

As far as teams in the same state also in the same division you have Cleveland and Cincy and NYJets and Buffalo.

I like the idea of regional alignments. I'm not sure NYG and Philthy fans are all that enamored to have a southern team in the same division with them.

This would not mean as much now as it would have in the 90's

Let them realign.

I made three changes that fit the geographical you were going for...maybe

The only reason you people keeping demanding realignment is because of the division names, and because they're not technically geographically perfect, and not because of who's in them. Do you really want to be in divisions with the Cardinals or the Buccaneeers or the Falcons? Who would? We've got a great thing going here in the most stacked division in football.

So let's just change the division names and leave everything else as is.

+1 Dallas suffers from having a load of long away trips to a different climate within the division. The only reason we have long standing rivalries with NY, Phil & Wash is because we're in the same division. There are no natural rivalries between Dallas and these cities. The same intense rivalries will develop in time in a different division.

I think the NFL will re-align in the near future, but only after the current round of franchise relocations settles down. Still at least 2 more moves to happen - Chargers and Jags.

I would hate this division. Those teams do nothing for me. They should never break up the Cowboys and Commanders. I have no interested building a rivalry with the Saints either.

I love being part of the NFC East and hope the Cowboys, Giants, Commanders and Eagles remain as members of the NFC East.

The OP's idea has too many moving parts, but we could use a few tweaks.

AFC East:

New England
Buffalo
New York Jets
Baltimore

AFC North

Cincinnati
Pittsburgh
Cleveland
Indianapolis

AFC South:

Jacksonville
Tennessee
Miami
Tampa Bay

AFC West

LA Chargers
Las Vegas
Denver
Kansas City

NFC East:

New York Giants
Washington
Philadelphia
Dallas

NFC North:

Chicago
Green Bay
Minnesota
Detroit

NFC South:

Atlanta
New Orleans
Houston
Carolina

NFC West:

Seattle
LA Rams
San Fran
Arizona

Maybe. But I’d still hate not playing the skins, eagles, and giants every year. The falcons, Saints, and bucs do nothing for me.

For now. But if we are competing with any of those three for the division I'm sure you would adapt.
Especially when you play them twice a year.

I'm all for keeping things as is, but it's not that huge of a deal to me.
