Just curious if there are any bike commuters, weekend cyclists or mountain bikers on the forum.

If so, tell us what your rig is?

If you're a commuter, what's your commute round trip?

I used to regularly ride a road bike, right up until I tried my first Mt bike in the mid late eighties. I sold my road ride and now I'm all in on the Mt Bike. I've got a bunch of trails carved out of the woods around the house. My main ride is a Rock Hopper with a few upgrades. XTR components and a lightweight, Mavic wheel set.

Also have an aluminum framed Schwinn with a more relaxed geometry that I use for less challenging rides on the dirt roads or the rail trail that runs by our place.

My road bike is a Kestrel carbon fiber with Campy Record Ti hardware. I rarely ride it anymore though.

My commuter is an intentional fixie beater because of where I park it, and my ride is only 3.5 mi, each way.

The Schwinn you described sounds like the Giant Toughroad SLR I have (pic below); it's like a rigid mountain bike/gravel grinder. I swapped out the stock wheels for a much lighter Reynolds CX wheel set and Maxxis Maxxlite tires (only 345 grams for 29er sized tire) and use it as my bombproof commuter.
