I think the only way to fix this team with the current ownership is to trade Dak for whatever and draft a qb and let rush start til he’s ready.

Is there any chance Dak could land us a first rounder? I mean Watson got 3 first round picks for the Texans and he sat out a year

It would cost us $103 million to trade him and he'd have to waive his no-trade clause. Contrary to those who just think Dak is awful, I have no doubt that he'd be worth a first to a QB-needy team, but I don't think we could get more than that because of the cost of his contract and the fact that he's coming off injury. Plus, we'd have to create space to eat $14 million more than the cap hit for keeping him this year (which most likely will get restructured down). It would handicap our ability to do anything else this year, although other contracts could be restructured to absorb it.

For those that don't think we could get a first for Dak. The Eagles traded Carson Wentz for a third-rounder and conditional second, which became a first because Wentz started 75 percent of the snaps for Indy that year. Wentz's career had gone a lot more south than Dak, who was in the MVP running just a season ago.

Hypothetically, say Dak was opening to waiving the NTC.
1. He could say trade me anywhere I'm wanted
2. He could say trade me to 2-3 teams or I'm not waiving.

Dallas best option to trade him would be after June 1st, to spread the ~102 mil dead cap over two years.

After June 1st is Free agency and the draft. Which for most teams they've either spent their cap space and signed or drafted their hopeful #1 QB.
So, it really does limit trading partners this offseason.

Next season the total dead cap becomes around 60mil to trade him pre June 1st, IF they do not restructure his deal this year.

As for value, since he has the NTC and has been injured multiple seasons I don't think you're looking at premium picks coming back.

this topic is such a headache generator.

Above all: No team would want Dak's contract. That plus he lacks the mobility teams crave, and he's suspect come playoff time. No trade is coming folks.

Again: there's no discussion here, for many reasons.

This discussion could be made if they have a bad season in 2025. If say a 6-11 or so season happens, I can see rumblings happening.

Who in their right mind is offering Dallas a first rounder for a fourth round drafted QB who freezes up in the playoffs ? And who’s now had multiple serious injuries . And is over 30 .
