Any ideas

Any actual ideas as to how to remedy performance? Cowboys look like they have for many of the past several seasons. Good enough to clobber terrible teams (yes, there are easy teams to play every season as several end up between 0-6 wins each year). Not good enough to consistently win against the better teams and make a real push towards a Super Bowl.

Are you a fan that:

1. Believes new superior coaching automatically makes this team a super bowl contender.

2. Believes a new better QB immediately makes this a Super Bowl contender.

3. Believes a change in management is necessary to incrementally build a perennial contender.

4. Believes that there is no reason to think in these terms, so why try to comprehend them and go have some food and drink (don't forget to yell Go Cowboys!).

My general thoughts are that the team is not close to as talented as many believe. Nor are they coached by a superior coach. They do benefit from a consistent approach with regards to talent acquisition and same system. Players in general seem to understand where they are supposed to be at any given time. But diverse and exotic tactics such as being ready for adaptive changes and real time adjustments seem like too much to ask from this staff (and much of its talent). The team does not like to make major adjustments that can cause major shakeup and domino effect changes. Get a dominant run stopping defensive tackle and accept less pass rush. Focus on gap contain and do not try to generate pressure so much with twists and stunts (this would basically waive goodbye to Marinelli).

The QB and receivers spent significant time together this off-season and the passing game has benefitted from it. The QB delivers way too many balls behind receivers when receivers are on the move. On crossing passes and post routes this causes lots of tipped balls as the receiver tries to reach back and make the catch. Yes the receiver bears some burden (perhaps as high as half) whenever this happens to either catch it or knock it downward. But it still speaks to accuracy lacking from the QB, and turnovers that they played a heavy role in.

The running game was better this game as crowd noise let the blockers coordinate better and play adjustments easier to communicate. Turnovers happen, but this team does not generate lots of them. And has not for years.

Trade for a bad azz defensive tackle? How high of a pick? Who would be available at trade deadline to help? Lots of trouble stopping the run between the tackles the entire season thus far.

They may turn it around, and make all this look silly but currently the team looks pretty similar to past squads. Very good against inferior competition. Meh against evenly matched squads and the potential to impress and disappoint against top teams. A team in short capable of making it to a divisional playoff game and compete, and a team that falters too many times in the schedule and ends around 8-8 ish.

A general manager that hires family and friends and desires comfort, ego massaging, money, and above all loyalty. One with zero hot chair. The comfort goes on to drafting, signing, hiring coaching and personnel etc. Though the approach at least has been consistent and they did rebuild the offensive line and make it a priority. But that alone will not win the thing... Big time head coaches will not be able to coexist for long under Jerry (if he can even hire another now). They have as much need for ego massaging as him and sometimes more.

This is a song that never ends...

Talent is there. I also have to hope a new coach won't accept the undervaluing of certain positions (Safety, DT) as well.

I think you can win with Dak but you have to a coach who demands improvement and execution, not just talk about it.

Ownership is the management so that's not changing. At least there's a possibility of a coaching change.

Sure a billionaire hedge fund guy gives Jerry an offer he can't refuse. Then all Jones and their extended Garrett family are banned from anything remotely connected to the team. That would be a start.

It would be incredibly bold but if the team went out and made two trades like Jamal Adams from the Jets and Geno Atkins from the Bengals (or Derek Wolfe from the Broncos), I would think we could win in spite of coaching.

I wish Stephen would bring in a defensive consultant to review and monitor the absolute disaster that Marinelli and Richard have created. Before hiring the consultant, make some calls to former NFL people like Jimmy Johnson and Parcells and get their opinions of what the problems are.

True, better coaching would help loads. My general thought is can this team get high level coaching to agree with how things are run here? My first reaction is no because of what ownership wants with regards to public perception of who is running the show and how the team perceives the authority tree. So the cycle of puppet coaches gets started afresh.

Yeah...don’t give a virtual NFL schoolboy (Kellen Moore) the keys to the car and expect it won’t come back with some dents in it.

This!

We just need an overall new voice. Our scouting department is doing awesome. The philosophy has to change. So wish they would just let Richard be the Interim HC and try him out. Not that I think he would be that great, but just test the waters. He’s a motivator. These young guys needs that.

This franchise will die in the Jones family. Jerry would never sell. I know you aren't being fully serious but Jerry is getting old. He can't even spend a fraction of what he already has. Dallas Cowboys is who he is. No one would know who he is without them. And get ready, Stephen will own the team until he passes. This whole forum will go to our graves with a Jones member owning this team.

I'm for this. What confidence do we have that we won't mess up the draft, anyway? Better than drafting another "Marinelli's Guy".

The problem is, who can you find in the middle of the season? Anyone good enough to consult/coach modern defense is currently working. That kind of skillset does not go unemployed.

Dom Capers is currently an assistant for Jacksonville. Marvin Lewis is a defensive consultant for Arizona State.

I sat next to Don Pees on a plane from the coaching convention right after he retired from the Baltimore Ravens. He's 70 and I was thinking he could be an ideal consultant, but then I realized he is currently the DC for the Titans. Ironically, the flight I was on with him was coming out of Nashville.

You're going to end up with some has-been like Monte Kiffin.

Maybe you could get a Greg Schiano but I really don't see a situation where Marinelli works with a consultant. Marinelli is 70 and has been coaching elite-level football (D1 or NFL) for 43 years.

I could imagine a situation where Marinelli was let go and Schiano was brought in to consult Richard. I don't think I'd hate that.

Teams have decided the best way to effect k.moores offense is getting dak to move, footwork then affects everything.....
