I really hope we try to sign him if he gets cut. He has a good 2 seasons left and would be a great role model for the younger receivers.

Make it happen Jerry!!!!!

I like the idea but given what Jerry said about our young WR's when he released Owens I don't see it happening.

I just don't see it. Signing period ends for Austin by April 17, and if he ends up leaving, maybe then, but until we see what happens with him, i don't see the need. Williams is being paid like a 75-80 catch guy and that's what he needs. Crayton is a 40-50 guy. Witten and Marty B are gonna be pushing 120. MBIII is averaging 46 per the last 2 seasons. Throw in Felix and Choice and you can add another 30+ easy, maybe even 40 if Felix stays healthy. That's not even bringing in Hurd and others who may make the roster from the present people we have or aquire through the draft in April. Just looking at the talent we have and the need to exploit that talent, letting who we have flourish makes a lot more sense that bringing in an ageing vet with no upside.

I'm getting tired of bringing in these 30+ year old WR's who give us two or three years.

It's time to bite the bullet and actually draft a couple of good ones who could develop into a #1 WR.

i think he has been one of the best route runners i have ever seen.

he could help roy and miles austin big time!!!

can you imagine miles speed with some great footwork!!!

i think if he comes cheap we should defiantely sign the guy to a 2 year pact.

I think if a veteran is brought in, it wont be until sometime during TC or maybe the end of preseason. They will want to see what the impact to the offense will (if any) before jumping the gun.

I think if things are running well and Austin grabs ahold of the #2 spot and shows he is ready for a FT role, they'll go with what they have. I have alot of confidence RW is going to be an excellent #1, and I know what Crayton can do and have confidence in him. Witten & Bennett are going to be tough for anyone to handle.

Initially I was hoping they would go after Holt, but the more I think about it, the more I lean towards going this route.

Go with and develop what you have (possibly adding a draft pick) and let the players who have talent grow into their roles.

I do not think we bring in any big ticket veteran WRs this year.

Also, I don't think we will add a name veteran WR (i.e., Holt) until after the draft, at the earliest. Probably not until TC/pre-season, even if we do at all.

I think the staff wants to see what it has with this current group of wideouts.

I DO think we will draft a WR this year. A WR who can potentially also provide help on punt returns and kick off returns as well.

The key to this receiving corps is whether R Williams and Romo can develop chemistry, and whether Austin can take that next step. We pretty much know what we have with Crayton and Hurd, IMO.

Stanback's position will be vulnerable because I think we draft a rookie to challenge him.

The way I see it, our WRs will be

R Williams
Austin
Crayton
Hurd

With the following competing for the last roster spot(s),
Rookie Draft Pick
Stanback
Potentially later veteran addition

I'm ambivalent about Holt. He's nearing the top ten all-time receiving leaders and is in the top five (along with TO) active leaders. He was the quickest receiver in history to 10,000 yds early in his eighth season and the quickest to 11,000 as well. He has averaged almost 85 ypg which is number 1 in NFL history. He's a good teammate and community leader and has some game left in him.

I have no idea if he'll be released as he's signed thru 2010 and his salaries are not offensive at all. And I don't follow the Rams at all either so I have no idea what they are going to do.

He would be a great teammate and I think he'd add to Tony's arsenal. As others pointed out he runs great routes and really is the consummate professional. I don't really see a need for him as the coaches should be able to teach route running and he would bump a young guy off the roster probably Hurd or Stanback. I really don't think they will do anything big but I don't know that. I'd rather stay away from high priced vets and allow the young guys a chance.

I agree. Holt has been one of the top-3 WRs in the league the last several years and as much as I think he would really help our team this year, I would rather look to the future and draft a guy and maybe pick up a young FA with some potential.

Holt wants to come back home to Carolina.

However... if Jerry pursued him...
even tho he's definitely on the decline, i wouldn't barf at signing him for depth purposes with a modest 1 or 2 year deal.

Mainly because... what if RW OR Austin get banged up (which looking at their histories, is very likely) ---- OR... what if RW AND Austin get banged up?

Be nice to have a guy that has at least experience at being a 1...

...and just to be clear... i'd still want to draft a speedy Deshawn Jackson type receiver to compete with Holt and Hurd for that spot.

I don't think Stanback is a serious option honestly...

He's old, but he's not T.O.
He'll be a good presence in the locker room and his routes are ridiculously good. If anything Roy has a lot to gain from him, especially if he's going to be a possession receiver.

Jerry also said TO wasn't going anywhere. And he certainly wouldn't tip his hand if he was interested in Holt by downplaying the WR talent level already on the team.
