Has anybody heard any news on whether or not a tender was placed on Miles Austin.
I heard somewhere that last friday was the deadline.

That was for franchise tags

Deadline for tendered offers for RFA is the day before FA begins

I hope they sign him to a 2nd round tender. Would hate to lose him for nothing
Agreed, but I wouldn't necessarily be unhappy if a team like Seattle took him and we got their second rounder.

That's what I was getting at. Could get quality players for little value in the 2nd

I expect there will be some discussions about signing him to something like a 2 year deal for 6 mill - i.e., he gives up a year of UFA for a more cash this year

I think it'll take something longer to keep him myself, when you're young and perceived as upside as he is, you don't make a money grab, you try to secure your future.

I like him like you guys do, but let's be realistic. He hasn't stayed healthy enough, to get the playing time to produce: yet. Some teams pay for potential, but they're usually the bad ones. (Oakland, Rams, Detroit, etc...)

Let's keep in mind here that Austin is pretty much in the same spot we had Romo in a while back - has real clear promise but it is not clear if he's going to have that big breakout season that nets him a huge deal - he's going to get tendered at a level that will keep him from getting an offer elsewhere. A two year deal -- pretty much exactly what we did with Romo -- trades a year of UFA for a bigger contract. This does give him security for the future as another year like 2008 is going to pretty much kill his stock. And of course, he can be pretty sure that if he has an outstanding 2009, that we are going to lock him up with a major extention

If they can get him to agree to a two year contract then great. Esp at the right price. But I don't want to get rid of the guy. I think he can be at the least a deep threat WR. I think he's going to be more as in a solid 3 maybe even a #2. Hopefully.

I heard somewhere that last friday was the deadline.

I keep thinking Jerra will find a way to keep him . . . . yet . . . .

The allure of starting
The allure of Miami-ettes on the beach
The allure of playing for a contender with a team that is, by all accounts, united and suddenly well-disciplined and well coached
And a big payday in Miami

Now, the question is:

Will Austin will content to play behind the inconsistent and swaggering No. 3 Crayton?
I don't think so . . . .

I like Austin, a lot, and would love to see him stay on this team.

That said if we tender him with a second and someone signs him and gives us their second rounder I'll be thrilled with that.

I wouldn't be upset at all with either of those possibilities playing their way out.
