Marinelli was on Special Edition or was it Jason Garrett show this week.
He siad and i often look at it this way too. He doesn't go by past fame stats on lack of sacks or takeaways or whatever. They just look at what they can try to do the next game. and you never know when those sacks or turnovers will come from.
Now does this mean we still need a good pass rush, and to find that or those players...yes we do. But just look at the next game.
DLaw coming around some more. And we are getting some pressure more so than the first games, but those sacks will come.
I don't intend this as a huge criticism, just and observation that every human has at least one weakness.
I love Marinelli as a coach but I'm not sure about his ability to spot talent or dole out reps. It seems like he was high on signing Mayowa and giving TCrawford the big contract. Also he has given guys like Golden Cock and Jack Crawford a lot of reps. It was weird that Scandrick said that Garrett made the decision to start Brown and have Scandrick only play the Nickel.
It seems that the reason Golden Cock played so many reps was because he had excellent scores on the "loaf" test every week (i.e. He was a very high effort player). I have a feeling that if the front office had kept Golden Cock, that he would be starting again.
On the flip side, I think he was involved in the selection of Maliek Collins which has been a great pick.
It's not uncommon that front offices have to override coaches (even great ones) in regards to talent acquisition. I think the Cowboys front office is now very balanced in that area. I don't think they ignore the coaches like they did before Will McClay was running the show (see Shariff Floyd) but I also don't think they throw out the work of the scouts (see Jason Williams, Wade Phillips and the 2009 draft).
I contrast this to the previous OL coach Bill Callahan who seemed to be excellent in terms of evaluating OL talent. He was the primary force behind drafting Travis Frederick and was involved in drafting Zack Martin and almost drafting Pro Bowl OG Trai Turner in the 3rd round.. I think he also convinced Jerry to give Leary the big guarantee to sign as a UDFA.
