"The official reason Wade Phillips was let go by the Bills is because he refused to fire special teams coach Ronnie Jones. That will be a big part of it, but the reality is, there were many other problems involving his coaching."

"Weaknesses: Phillips did not sweat the details enough, which becomes a problem against the best coaches in the big games. He didn’t keep the pulse of the locker room well enough. The Flutie-Johnson quarterback controversy might have been unmanageable for anyone, but he let it fester too much. And he did not put enough priority on special teams. His hiring of buddy Ronnie Jones, who was a disaster, cost him his job."

Reasons he was let go in Buffalo sounds all too familiar. Wade would be a great little league coach, etc. But he simply inept at running a pro football team. He's too eager to be liked by his players instead of being a real head coach which includes the responsibility of holding them to a high level of performance & recognize when some can't/won't do the job. Have no doubt when he finally left go, he will act totally surprised and refer to how many games he's won vs lost & that the Cowboys went 13-3 & won their first playoff game in how many years. I'm just concerned that his handling of this team could have wasted a year in which the Cowboys were legit SB contenders & that 2011 season (if there is football next year) will be a rebuilding year--particularly cause of our need to restock the OL, rebuilt our ILB, etc.

Did you take a look at both articles in their entirety? Some of it makes you scratch your head.

wow. I just read both articles completely and it really does look bad. Its amazing how special teams kick coverage keeps happening under Wade. And the lack of turnovers again. And of course the penalties problems have followed him around and we are feeling that one really bad.

It's really a shame. Because like the article said. Wade is a nice guy and i would really like to see a guy like him win a superbowl. Its a shame but i guess nice guys dont win enough in the NFL. Wade has won in the regular season everywhere. But his teams always seem to get beat when it counts the most.

The team can keep trying to identify the problems here for the rest of the season, but Wade is the #1 reason for all of this, he is the problem

It is pretty eerily similar. Then, the criticism of Shannahan is, too.

The frustrating thing about the Phillips regime, is that the attention to detail criticism, which seems to be valid, should be fairly correctible. If you've got a coach talented enough to win as many games has he wins, it seems like you should be able to put pieces and structure around him to help with the details and whatever game management issues crop up. It's not like we don't have very good coaches at the coordinator positions.

And yet they've never had a three year run even close to what Wade did there in the 10 years now since he left.

I think the articles in my first post have never been more accurate after today's performance by this team.

I also think that anybody who truly thinks Wade is the right coach for this team is in complete denial.

Look at what their front office has been doing. They're lucky to have been close to middling for so long. The bottom is completely falling out for them now.

Look, when we hired Phillips we all knew we were hiring a substandard head coach. A terrific coordinator yes, but nothing more.

It wasn't like Phillips was getting this gig anywhere else. Just like Campo a decade ago, this was a job that was being offered to him only by us. I think the hope was that we could surround him with enough good people to win, kinda like we did with Switzer. Almost hide him, to a degree. But it hasn't happened.

... And it's what happens when you settle for mediocrity at a spot. Look at how terrible we were in the Quincy/Bledsoe years. When you settle for "OK" at a critical spot, the results are rarely satisfying.

Frankly, Phillips has exceeded expectations here. I never expected a division title, much less two. I never expected a playoff win under his helm. The only thing I expected was disaster, which we've endured in two of his four seasons.

Lastly, if you notice, it's the season in which there have been the highest of expectations in which we have endured the biggest failure under Phillips. In his first year, expectations were down. Then we were a trendy Super Bowl pick in '08, and we failed miserably. Expectations were again down last year, and we rebounded. This year we were a trendy Super Bowl pick again, and we're worse than ever.

In the end, though, I don't blame Phillips. Someone here had a great line a few weeks ago. What was he going to do, turn down the job and say, "Sorry, Jerry. I'm a bumbling idiot. Don't hire me." He's done the best he can. We just have to aim higher with our next hire.

The Flutie/Johnson debacle was pretty strong evidence that Wade lacked any real control over his team. That organization was a circus at the time, just like Dallas is now.

Hopefully it won't take us that long to recover from the mess Wade leaves behind

I dreaded the day the Cowboys hired Phillips. I knew it was a mistake from the get-go. Living 80 miles from Buffalo, we got an upclose view of Phillip's time in Buffalo and it wasn't a keeper.

Just because an organization makes even worse decisions, and hires coaches that are even WORSE than Wade, is not a reflection on Wade. Unless you were to say....."Phillips was such a bad coach that they fired him for THAT GUY!"

Wade Phillips friggin sux!!

That 2nd link really hit the spot there. Eerily similar to what is going on in Dallas.

IMO, the only reason Wade has done anything here is because of the ridiculously stocked cupboard of talent.

He has Pro Bowl quality playmakers at nearly all the key spots. Campo didn't have that. Parcells didn't have that for over 75 percent of his tenure here. Hell, Gailey didn't even have that.

Ware, Austin, Romo, Witten, Ratliff -- these are all guys that could start just about everywhere. And they do an amazing job at making a highly subpar head coach look somewhat competent at times.

It reminds me of when we decided to roll the dice with Alan Ball at safety this year.

Sometimes there are decisions made that you know smell, but all you can do is cover your eyes and hope for the best.

My eyes are now open and I don't like what I see.

Witten doesn't look as good as he has in years past, Romo will be 32 by the time we have a new coach and system in place. Ware, Austin and Ratliff should be able to keep playing at a high level for a few more years and Dez has a lot of potential but overall you have to ask your self if our window came and went in the Phillips era, we have a lot of holes right now we didn't have a few years ago :bang2:

Those words reminded me of an incident from long ago. To make a long story short I got throwed and landed in a pile of crap. I was pretty young and remember thinking that if I didn't open my eyes the crap would go away and nobody would see what had happened.
