Callahan long gone and Alexander shown the door
and with Houck and Colombo now on task
is zone blocking gone?

The board consensus was that our o-line guru walked and now we are left with band aides....

Don't think Callahan got on too well with Garrett. He wanted out, they made him stay his last year under contract then he bolted out the door. Wasn't a very good assistant head coach - by all accounts, but I think he butted heads with Garrett and envisioned himself as head coach when here.
Great O-line coach, however.
My hope is that Columbo and Houck together will return the O-line to at least what we had with the previous coach - Pollack ?
Alexander may or may not be a good coach, but trying to change up the scheme somewhat was obviously the wrong decision. I just hope they can turn it around before this becomes another waste of a season.

We can put some of the blame on Alexander for trying to teach some different run blocking techniques, but other than Martin, these guys deserve a fair share of the blame. Vs the Skins in 2 of the first 3 offensive plays Tyrone and La’ell were terrible trying to pass block. Tyrone was caught holding and it cost us a 20 yard Dak scramble and La’ell allowed his man to over power him and hit Dak’s arm. Beasley was wide open for a 25-35 yard gain. Both plays were terrible plays by Tyrone and La’ell, which should not be blamed on Alexander.

...The team finally acknowledged what those outside the organization had already noted, the offensive line was underperforming considering the talent on hand. More specifically rookie OG Connor Williams has not been developing as well as expected and the unit was woeful in pass-protection. Yes, the unit misses All-Pro offensive center, Travis Frederick, however, journeyman Joe Looney has acquitted himself quite well in Frederick’s absence. Yet the unit has had assignment issues on blitz pickups and new blocking techniques have not had the expected results. That is scheme specific and that’s on the coach.

The Cowboys took a swipe at what they view as the problem as they announced that former 8-year offensive line coach Paul Alexander had been let go from the Cowboys before he even finished his first season. Former Cowboys OL and current assistant coach Mark Colombo has been given the new title and will lead the highly talented group moving forward...

I certainly hope Colombo means a return to more zone.

The blocking schemes on a OL are just like the secondary schemes, nobody is 100% one way.

But we ran wide zone from Callahan through Pollack. And it worked pretty well with Murray and also with Elliott.

If the idea is the identity of the team is through the OL and the run game, this needs to be the direction.

I have to admit, the Houck influence bugs me a little.

Just not sure what the design is here with the replacement.

If the idea is to go back to what has worked with the zone scheme, I am all for it.

If this is just about nuances that Alexander did that nobody liked, well, I just question the point.
