The draft is this weekend, and that usually marks the beginning of grill season for me (I actually started a few weekends ago because the weather has been so good).

Does anyone have any secrets to keeping the grill clean or cleaning one? Burgers and hot dogs are no big deal, they're easy to clean. But whenever I cook something with lots of marinade or sauce, I get lots of residue and have to spend at least an hour scrubbing down the grill (not fun).

I know some of you here are grill masters.. any secrets? Thanks!

You want a clean grill? Tell your wife to shave her legs, gather up the leg hair, tie it together, and scrub away. :D

You might want to try pressure washer. A buddy of mine from work akes his grill to the car wash. A citrus cleaner might work but I've never tried it.

Personally I never scrub mine "spotless"...

Much like iron skillets, grills seem to do better after "seasoning"...

I like to leave a little bit of char behind to flavor the next meal...

I scrub mine with a brush to get the excess char off... but I never attempt to clean it all off...

A little spritz of non-stick cooking spray can help with that...

If you like to get them spotless... a bit of crumpled up tin foil does a good job...

To clean my gas grill... I turn it on high for 5 to 10 minutes (depending on how dirty it is). After the time is up, I do like TB suggested and use tin foil or a grill brush to clean off the loose char and ashes.

they also make a spray grill cleaner that works really well but I try to avoid using any chemicals on my grill.. don't wanna eat chemical residue

Large hot fire, long metal brush with wooden handle. Five minutes scrubbing both sides and all shiny silver again...
