I am intrigued by Jon Alston. OLB from Stanford.

Excellent athelticism, amazing motor and huge hitter, smart guy, great character and team captain. Has a huge passion and emotion for the game. He is just one of those gamers.

I guess the big question is: do we have a position on this team for him? Seems to me that his size translates to a SS where we have Roy Williams. Any other thoughts where he could go? I see him as 2nd day player.

With his brains, tenacity and measureables, I think he could be a solid football player. The only problem I see is that he is too small (probably) for Parcells' taste.

Now everyone here talks about what an athletic freak Manny Lawson is (and that is true) but look how Alston compares to the freak Lawson:

40 yard dash
Lawson 4.43

Alston 4.40

Bench
Lawson 23

Alston 30

Vert Jump
Lawson 39.5"

Alston 40"

Broad Jump
Lawson 10'4"

Alston 11'0"

Shuttle
Lawson 4.21

Alston 4.14

Cone
Lawson 6.90

Alston 6.90

Now, I'm not trying to say he is equal to Lawson (indeed, the freakish thing about Lawson is his measurables for his size), just that Alson has freakish athletic ability as well. I think Lawson is a late 1st-early 2nd round prospect. I'd love to have him. I think Alston is a 2nd day kind of guy. I'm just showing you what an athletic guy he is (his numbers are better than the other freak, Thomas Howard). Couple that with his smarts and intensity, I just see a top notch football player. The only concern I see is his size (6' 0.6", 223) which leaves him potentially without a position for a team like our's.

Do we have a place for a gamer like this? Do you think he could be a dime MLB? Can we find a place for him?

He might make a nice hybrid player like Darren Woodson.

Woody was excellent in coverage and could play either safety position even though his greatest asset was his ability to play the run. A kid like Alston could play FS effectively even though he might be best sutied for the SS position.
