my GF had books of checks issued to her with an account number that doesnt exist, of course she has written checks out of that book and now they have bounced and now have returned check fees. on the phone they told her they cant do anything because she cant prove that she has checks with the account # that she read off and she needs to go to the branch that issued her the checks. so an hour drive later she is telling the branch manager this and all he can say is that they arent responsible because we cant prove they issued the checks. as she is walking out he says you know there is one thing i can do for you, and as smug as he can be says, i can shred those checks for you for free. yeah thanks *******

It's not just Wells Fargo: The big national banks are all capable of this sort of blame skipping.

You might consider filing complaints up the chain, just to make them have to deal with the paperwork.

How do people even use checks anymore?

I tried to a while back after leaving my debit card in storage and the guy at the store looked at me like I was a criminal. Once he found out I was out of state, he told me he wouldn't take the check.

i hate checks, they are stupid and out-dated but the apartment complex will only take a check or money order, the dog groomer only takes checks or cash and we didnt have time to go to the ATM and the utilities place isnt set up for online payments. It is just stupid in this day and age to not be set up for electronic payments

I mainly write checks for bills...

But they come in handy if I leave my debit card somewhere and I need to make a quick purchase.

As for WFB.. I've been banking w/them since '95, but they're no longer my primary bank for various reasons. They pissed me off royally one day and I switched everything to my other bank. I use them for savings and small purchases.

I use checks for rent, as the complex requires a check or money order. They charge extra to pay via credit or debit card or online.

They're all like that. Bank Of America is the worst in my experience, but I'm sure they all try the same junk to fleece their customers. It's common practice.

We just got our mortgage with Wells Fargo and it was really easy, the 2 people I worked with directly were really helpful and always available. We also got a fantastic rate.

Now our bank, Wachovia, is being absorbed by Wells Fargo at the beginning of August. Hopefully it will be smooth sailing. We've had really good experiences with Wachovia and trying to find a new bank here would be a pain. Wachovia dominated banking in this area.

I guess I can consider myself lucky. I have multiple accounts with Bank of America. I keep hearing all of the bad experiences, but I have never once had one myself.

I've never hand an account with them, but they had a trader that I wanted to choke to death.

That said, I used to know a few people that worked for Wells Fargo in the CS department. Haven't spoken to them in probably 10 years though.

I used to work for a bond trading company and that was my experience with 95% of them. :laugh2:

I can't complain about Wells Fargo.

I've had an account with them for 7-8 years now and no problems.

US Bank has been pretty good to me as well except they cancelled a debit card of mine because the number was skimmed and didn't bother to tell me about it. I hadn't used the card in so long it took like 2 months before I figured it out.
