I have a fiend who can be described at best as a sometimes-fan of NFL. So he might be jus drunk about the following.

Anyway he said Wade had recently made a comment about the Commanders and referrred to them as the Washington Generals.

Seems that would be lockerroom material for the skins but maybe Wade made the remark in an obviously joking way or maybe was paying tribute by saying they were NOT the Washington Generals.
Aren't the Generals that team that the Harlem Globetrotters whip every game?

Anybody hear of this Washington Generals remark by Wade?

I did not hear of the comment, but the name definitely is that of the perennial whipping boys in the Harlem Globetrotter shows.

Mum's the word for Wade Phillips

By Tim MacMahon

IRVING, Texas –- The Cowboys might have decided on their nickel linebacker, punt return and kickoff returner for the season opener. But Wade Phillips doesn't want the world to know until Sunday night.

"We're really not broadcasting that for general ... for the Washington Generals," Phillips joked.

The special teams work we saw in practice didn't provide conclusive evidence. Dez Bryant and Akwasi Owusu-Ansah both got reps on kickoff and punt returns.

Practice was closed to the media by the time team defense work started.

Phillips praised Jason Williams for his work in the nickel and dime packages in the preseason finale. But Keith Brooking worked with the first-team nickel before he suffered his preseason-ending shoulder injury.

Phillips prefers to have a few position mysteries entering the season opener, giving the Cowboys a minor element of surprise.

I think the context was a reporter was asking him to telegraph some personnel/package moves he might make in the game and his brain wanted him to say something about "that information is not for the general public to know" but also "that's something we don't want Washington to know," and so in the telling he kind of combined them into a bad pun. That's the way I took it, anyway.

A smart coaching decision. He should follow belicheck's (sp?) plan of not letting anything out to the media.
