Depends on how old you are, what you consider important

Decatur is really small, like a couple stoplights small. There might be more cattle than people in Wise County.

But, not far from FW. It's NW from FT Worth so Dallas is like 45 mins east.

Also pretty close to the OK border, where they allow casinos.

Only driven through a few times

I'm definitely curious what the culture is like there, before moving halfway across the country. I wonder how it can be so sparsely populated yet so close to Ft. Worth and Dallas.

I'm definitely curious what the culture is like there,.
It's on the road out to Wichita Falls
My memories from years ago.
Hunting/fishing ranching/farming culture
Texas small town folk so:
If you move there prepare to be examined by the folk who have lived there for generations.
If you choice not to involve yourself in the community, negative idle chatter will begin.
You would have to drive to the metroplex to see anything other than a movie

I wonder how it can be so sparsely populated yet so close to Ft. Worth and Dallas.
It's typical for Texas, once you get 45 minutes out from any city cluster, it begins to get real sparse.
Really sparse, it's not like the Northeast at all; but I'm sure you knew that.

You will like it there get a house away from the city You will have more privacy than you ever imagined existed

Until/unless people realize I'm a Commanders fan :D Have to also talk to family in the DC area about this, since it is halfway across the country and all.

Have a job opportunity and may move there in August.
If you live in the DC area and like urban life, Decatur may not be for you.
If like affordable (very) small-town living with access to the metroplex, maybe you will.
NO WAY would I move somewhere without visiting first. I would suggest you do the same.

Small town but close enough to the big city to get some action. The way DFW is growing north, it may be a suburb soon.

That area is pretty nice and you'd be just down the road from Muenster and a couple of German meat markets that are pretty special. I know people that drive from Dallas, an hour, unless you drive like Chrispierce, just to get bacon and they buy 10-30lbs at a time at Fischers' Meat Market and they make some really tasty sausages.

If you move there, you'd better like country music or they'll kill and eat you. The last time a rock band was through there, they had to ride through in overalls on a hay truck.

If you have a preconceived notion of what a stereotypical Texan/town might be like......Decatur should deliver all of those expectations

You are still close enough to explore Dallas/FW though for some bigger city feel

They shoot Commanders fans, so.....
So do their cheerleaders. Some not so flattering news about the trip they took to Costa Rica in 2013 and were forced to take a photo topless and I do not think this is going to be the only story about how these owners use the cheerleaders for their male sponsors.

Allow me to extend my sincere condolences to our fans that live in the DC area. Absolutely nothing happens worthwhile in that stinking cesspool.

Yeah, watch The Last Picture Show before you go. It is reality because the people there are all in black and white.

If you look for homes and you like quiet - try Runaway bay to the West of Decatur.

There is a massive amount of house and apartment building in the area.

Only problem going further west is lack of grocery store choices. Food prices will be higher as will gas prices. But Texas gas prices are usually lower as the state tax on it is low.

You will be an hour from Fort Worth and about an hour and a half from Dallas - Same for Arlington - Home of the Cowboys.

They are doing a lot of road improvements all over.

You can choose what type of area you like to live in. There are towns with many family dwellings to the East of Decatur - toward Denton.

There are a lot of small homes to the West - that is why I said Runaway Bay.
My co-worked moved out there recently and I have friends there also.

It's on the southern end of what would be considered tornado alley.
Yep, I commuted and lived in So. central OK for some years and for some reason when they form in that area and begin to move in a northeasterly direction, they build unusual power as they cross the Red. The one that hit Lone Grove in Feb 08, EF4 that killed 8 people, formed right over that area, headed towards Gainesville, turned straight north with a fury.

If I had the choice of No. TX vs So. OK, no choice to be made. I went through some of the most violent storms I've ever witnessed and lightning that would take your breath away.
