Anybody here familiar with Decatur, TX?

Until/unless people realize I'm a Commanders fan :D Have to also talk to family in the DC area about this, since it is halfway across the country and all.
You get out of that city and into the area you're considering, look up, those are stars. Light pollution is robbing most people of the best celestial show for free they can get.

You didn't say much about your situation with regards to family. If you're a young single guy, you will definitely need to schedule weekend forays into the Metroplex for women of the female persuasion.

I relocated to a town of 2K in the Hill Country but I am an old hermit but if a I was a young whippersnapper wanting to sow my wild oats, I would be wacky here. Now, I get my oats out of a round box with an old man on the outside. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Good suggestions to go down and spend a little time in that area because it could be culture shock because there ain't none. The Decatur Art Gallery issues crayons to patrons upon entering. There is common belief that Branson, MO is purgatory and old country artists go there to await their next stop. The Decatur Philharmonic Orchestra is Phil. He's a one man band who's timing is off because a broken hip prevents the cymbals between his knees from meeting flush.....and he's going deaf.

The cost of living in Decatur Texas vs anywhere in the northeast will make the culture shock a bit more tolerable.

My dad bailed a girl I was “kind of seeing” outta the Decatur jail once, what was your question again?

How do Dallas and Ft Worth compare in terms of things to do and social life?

Depends on what you like to do.
If your an outdoors person your in the right place.
Nice lakes to fish and boat in right nearby.
I'm not sure about social clubs in the area up there or in Denton. The University of North Texas - Mean Green - are in Denton.

You may or would have to drive into Fort Worth or Dallas for night life.

Both cities have very good Zoos.
And if you like Jazz there is a station 88.1 out of Denton - right near you. They list the artists in the area and the clubs.

103.5 is sports talk with Cowboy and Texas Ranger slant.
ESPN is also up there but I do not know the station number.

I do know there are dance clubs down the 35W highway. In Stockyards a lot of Country Western bars.
There are two dance places - The Stagecoach and one in I think a Raddison on 35W.

The two major sports are in Arlington right next to each other.
The Basketball and Ice Hockey are in down town Dallas right next to the highway.

Theres the Texas state fair each year in Dallas.
Theres the Rodeo in Fort Worth each year.
