I read that it's a rip-off, so I wanted to see what other people had to say about it. I'm not gonna lie, I want to get it done cheap.

Don't give me the, "you get what you pay for" bit.

Is MAACO a quality company? Any good experiences? Bad?

I wouldn't be afraid to use them. Keep one thing in mind tho. The paint job will only be as good as what is underneath it. If you want a rust bucket repainted, you will just have a shinny rust bucket until the paint bubbles from the rust.

I think, like any chain, you can have good and bad results depending on the one you happen to visit. I had my first car repainted at a Maaco here in MD when I was in college in the 90s--because it was all I could afford, and it had that awful silver metallic paint from the 80s that went dull almost instantly.

I had it painted dark green--which was probably also crazy over such a light color. They did a great job. Even my skeptical, disapproving dad had to admit it.

Naw, just a few scratches and paint peeling off from a couple of accidents. I'm going to need to replace the fender, which I can do myself at a cost of 45 plus shipping and handling.

I should have mentioned before, you can always check out their work too. A place that does high volume work like they do should always have a few cars waiting for customers to pick them up.

My girlfriend works for a MAACO. From what she tells me it all depends on which specific MAACO location it is.

Someone hit my Dad when he was at a stop light once. (this was early 90s) He took it to the dealer to give it fixed. The problem happen because their paint shop (this dealer had one) was overloaded so they sent his car to MAACO to get painted.

When he got it back, the paint job didn't really match the rest of the car AND they had paint on the rear tail light. (piss poor tape job)

So here is the deal. If you are going to let MAACO paint your car, make sure the car is paid off already. If it's new enough that you're still paying on it, I would take it to a dealer and tell them no subcontracting!

My Dad made the dealer fix it.

Once time a while back never do it again. The old adage you get what you pay for well pay a low price and get a low quality job. As part of the paint job started to peel I would see some of the old paint under it telling me that did not do a good job of sanding and little to no priming. I also know others who have had bad experience with MAACO

I'd go with someone local I trust and pay a little more. Those local owned shops are more willing to work with you vs. those national chain shops. I feel that way about all car repair places mot just paint shops.

MAACO has different quality levels, three if I remember correctly. The rep was kind enough to show off the results from all the different levels offered. Unfortunately, even the top tier paint job will not have your car looking like a factory paint job, but I guess it's better than nothing. For touch up purposes, I guess it would be ok, but I wouldn't trust a full body paint job from them.

My understanding this was 10 years ago or so one of the issues with them and why they are so cheap and the paint peels sometimes etc.

Is they bake the car to dry the paint and use a lower quality paint this was from a guy who worked in the industry for many years

I am sure they still do that but hey sometimes you are poor and you live with it
