my old man phoned me yesterday to say he had a spare ticket to see tim o'brien tonight. had a quick look on youtube and seems fairly decent plus traditional music usually is better live so going to give it a go. anyone seen him before and know if hes good live? playing with a local musician who i doubt you'll have heard of kris drever - you should listen to "steel and stone."
if nothing else its a venue i've always wanted to go to but not been before and an excuse for a few beers.

I'm a big fan of bluegrass. Rhonda Vincent is the best female bluegrass artist I have ever heard. I also like Patty Loveless and old school like Bill Monroe and Del McCoury. Also, check out a friend of mine, his name is Marty Raybon. He was the lead signer for a country group about 15 years ago called Shenandoah. Marty Stewart also has his roots in bluegrass as well and you may want to check him out as well along with Ricky Skaggs.

I'm blessed to live in Nashville because I get to see all of these guys a lot.

Not a big fan of the style. Think I was over exposed to it as a youth in WV.

However I will say this. There are a ton of great musicians and I respect their abilities as a fellow musician.

One thing I've noticed is even if I don't like the music, there are musical pieces that I can see the beauty in their composition.

Doesn't mean I want to listen to it though! :laugh2:

Some of the best artists I have ever heard was mandolin players.

Yes, I love it. Great musicians usually and some of the songs just make you feel good. It got a revival of sorts here in the States when "O Brother, Where Art Thou" came out. The soundtrack sold like crazy and the industry got a bit of a boost.

I used to live in Winston Salem, North Carolina and there was a little amphitheater downtown. Every day for an hour there were little bluegrass roots concerts down there. I loved every minute of it.

I like Blue Grass can't say I listen to alot of it but every now and then I enjoy listening to it. I'm that way with most music only exception is Rap but when it comes to Blue Grass, County, Reggea, classical, Jazz, blues or soul I enjoy listening to that style of music now and then. Rock is what I like the best

I respect the traditionalists, but tend to prefer the newgrass and celtic/bluegrass crossovers. I agree that they 'Brother Where Art Thou' soundtrack really hit big and pumped up the interest nationally. Very nice album.

Would enjoy hearing your take on the concert.

I don't personally enjoy it unless it is live music. Hope you enjoy the show, though!
