Anyone else want to train with me as a deep snapper?

I'm telling you, this ability makes a guy indespensible. I had a hard time understanding why we'd keep Fowler and Hoyte, until I read that Fowler is the teams backup deepsnapper.

If Ladeceur (sp?) gets an ankle stepped on or a finger busted, we have noone. So Ladeceur makes the team as a deepsnapper and DRESSES for every game. Fowler makes team as backup Deepsnapper and depth at Linebacker. Ladeceur hasn't allowed any jailbreaks after snapping, but he is never mentioned as an emergency oline or TE despite being a big and fit guy (I saw him live in camp - runs well for 260, and no fat). He doesn't make many tackles after punts either. He doesn't even practice other plays, just stands around with kickers mostly.

Sheesh. I'm going to the backyard and shotgunning some balls. I can use $375,000 per year, hehe.

Job description. "Have to be able to consistently snap the ball accurately, and get in the way of someone close to 300 pounds for up to 3 seconds". That's it!

If Petiti or Peterman had practiced deepsnapping for even 2 or 3 years, they would probably still be on this team right now. Think about it. Parcells loves dual capabilities. Neither of those guys would have a spot of trouble on the blocking end of punts or field goals.

I'm gonna hit the buffets and fast food joints, bulk up to 300 and snap 500 balls a day. My goal is to be the first 40 year old deepsnapper in NFL history!

Best kept secret in sports!

Sorry that TE we used to have as our third te Robinson i think was his name was like 42 and a long snapper.

I agree though thats a great job, 375k a year to be involved in maybe 10 plays total a game ( punt team also)

I was being sarcastic Stealth, but I still think if you can handle the physical part of blocking during the field goals and blocking then covering on punts, which as a Center you could probably handle very well, it boils down to the ability to snap the ball acurately and consistently. That ability added to an average oline ability gives a guy or 2 a roster spot on an NFL team.

I think anyone with some talent and a TON of practice can learn to do that. How many guys really practice it though? I have never played Oline, so I'm sure there is more to it then I'm saying, but I still say, if Petiti had practiced deepsnapping decently for 2 years, he'd be a valuable snapper/oline game day roster spot that had 1 - 2 more years to develop into a tackle or guard.

Sometimes being smart about how you fit into the roster, can get you there! If I was on a bubble to make a football team (which nobody really thought Petiti was), I'd ask coach if I could give it a try there.

What else is a Candian guy going to do in the NFL?

Pretty much special teams or hockey.

Yep, us Canucks tend to crop up as deepsnappers and kickers. They don't tend to grow them as big up here as compared to you Southern US Farm Boys, but that doesn't mean we fell off the turnip truck either. If we can make a $1Million without getting hit by fast as lightning 250 - 350 pounders 40 times a game, well we like those kind of opportunities.

Apparently Adam Carolla is a heck of a long snapper.

Obviously there only a limited number of players who can successfully deep snap. Dale Hellastrae had a job for so long because he was one of the best.
