I remember Adam saying we would have about 24mil before the offseason.

We signed Gurode does anyone know how much he will cost this year?

We release Bledsoe and free up 6.5mil.

Hopefully we sign Colombo/McBriar soon.

Don't forget the cap hit from possibly releasing Rivera, Hannam, Vandy...did I miss anyone? Would Boiman and Larry Allen count this coming year or the year just past? Then there is the decision on Glenn and his 5 million bonus. Restructure...please.

BigD posted that Gurode will count 2,266,667 against our cap in 2007.

Good points. I think Glenn earned his money. That was the first year of a new deal, but he probably could restructure and save us a bit...

I thought bledsoe only freed up 5.5

Cutting rivera results in a hit of either 1.6 this year and 3.5 next year.......or 5 mill this year......

which is why the bledsoe rivera tandem cut becomes a wash.

Vandy is counting against this years cap, pretty sure. The other guys.....don't know. Allen should be off I think but not sure and boiman, hannam are such small amounts i don't think it matters.

Think dallas is around 17.5 after the Gurode signing......Cutting drew moves that to 23. Hopefully they can get Crayton and Colombo redone and have 19.5 to 20 left.

From what I understand, thats how it is.....feel free to correct me.

If we assume that Bledsoe will be released this week, and if we count the $3.1 million credit we'll get for Abram Elam's LTBE bonus that he didn't earn, we'll be $24.381 million under the cap BEFORE THESE THINGS HAPPEN --

-- any other cuts or renegotiations

-- any other charges or credits left over from 2006

-- any tenders made to restricted free agents or exclusive-rights free agents

Could you give us any kind of read on what other charges or credits could be left over from 06, and what kind of money will need to be set aside for the RFAs and ERFAs?? I know you'll have to do a bit of guesswork on the latter, but I also figure that yours will at least be informed guesses...

Gurode had a one year deal of $1.5 million. So he will cost only about 750,000 more this year then last year. Really small extra hit on the cap this year.

If we were to sign one of the big guys to a contract at guard, even if we had to pay near Hutchinson prices, that would only count probably $5 million this year against the cap. Figure we have to save around 3-5 million for our draft choices. JJ always wants to keep 3-5 million for the season and any unexpected happenings. McBriar, Automatica, and company probably looking at most 2-3 million in cap hits. Columbo is the question mark- we can get a backup QB for probably only 2 million. So we should be ok.

It should cost a lot less than that. Hutchinson got $16 million in bonuses, so that's $2.67 million in prorations. Add in a $600,000 base salary, and that's a cap number of $3.27 million. And with the Rule of 51, that's less than a $3 million reduction in cap room.

Was vandy cap hit of 1.6 mill already figured into the cap numbers?

Yes, he was released months ago, so his dead money is already part of the total.

If we cut Rivera...what does that do to the $24.381...what's the balance?

Cutting Rivera would reduce our cap room by $1.25 million, plus the cost of our 52nd-highest paid player moving into the Top 51 (likely $285,000).

But I'd be surprised if we cut him before June 2 (or without using the early June 2 treatment), since we'd need a replacement on board before we let him go. If we wait, we'd save $2 million this season (minus the cost of the 52nd player moving into the Top 51) and would have $3.25 million in dead money for him next season.

Cool...that should get us what ever we need and still have plenty left over. Looks like 23-27 mil depending on how we handle Rivera. I like!
