Thinking of getting a new phone. Iphone is NOT an option for me. No need suggesting it.

Currently have a Samsung Note 8 and it is still a good phone but one thing I don't like about Samsung phones is the charging ports always go bad. I think I will keep this phone as a backup and MP3 player when I am doing outside work. Might even go so far as to see if I can get the port fixed.

Now I had planned on waiting till the Note 20 comes out, the Note 10+ price to come down and go and get the Note 10+.

But the newer samsungs also don't have headphone jacks. I know I know I can use blue tooth and I have a couple of blue tooth headphones but would rather have the jack.

I started to think about maybe getting a different brand of phone. So have been looking at some videos of other ones and the LV 60 Thinq 5g Dual Screen has caught my eye. It has the head phone jack, has SD Card slot available to 2Tb. 5000 MAH battery. Everything else seems to be pretty good specs. The only negative of the phone seems to be the refresh rate is lower than the newer phones coming out. I am ok with that as i don't do a lot of gaming.

I kind of like the dual screen option. You can have the phone on it's own or you can hook it into the provided case that has another screen that hooks into it. So you have side by side screens but without the folded samsung screens.

I am not sure how the LG interface is compared to the samsung. I know both run Android of course but not sure about the differences that are on each phone from the manufacturer added software.

Also do not have exp with LG phones so I don't know if they hold up well, if they have some quirks or shortcomings (like the samsung port) or not.

I had a late generation one that my company provided a couple of years ago. I had a terrible time getting dependable phone service. My wife's Samsung and neighbor's iPhone had no problems at all. I switched to a competitive Galaxy model with the same carrier and the problem went away. Not sure about the features, apps, bells, whistles on the current LG models, but as of a couple years ago, the phone technology seemed way behind Samsung. Your mileage may vary.

I've never had an LG, but my last phone was a Moto g5 plus, and I loved it. Talk about a phone that could take a beating! So once it finally crapped out, I got this Moto g Power, and I like it even more than the other one. I don't know how durable it is yet, because I haven't gotten po'ed at it, but it has some cool features, including a built in instructional app. Also runs Android. Bought it at Best Buy for $250, activation to Verizon included.

I just got a LG Stylo6 a few weeks ago and love it. It has a decent processor, 3 GB of Ram and internal memory of 64 GB with a 6.8 inch screen. The thing is pretty darn big.

I know you said you don't do any gaming but just to throw this out there. A lot of gaming phones come with a headphone jack, big battery, high refresh rate, and a top of the line Proccesor. Usually they are couple hundred dollars cheaper then the flagships. Might be worth a look

I do that now... Have to.

However I would like to be able to transfer stuff between phone and computer through a cable instead of over wifi. Might get me a cheap card reader and just do transfers via SD card.

I needed to replace my Samsung Note 4 with something better when the Note 4 konked out. Fortunately, I was able to buy time because my dad gave me his old iPhone 6, which I used as a stop-gap while I shopped for a new Android. For me, it came down to the Note 9 or the LG Stylo 5. I ended up getting the Note 9 when I found a good deal on a refurb, but I did seriously consider the Style 5. It would have done everything I needed to do, but the Note 9 refurb that I found wasn't that much more and it beat it on all the specs. But I would have been okay with the Stylo 5. Here's a video on it. I think they've come out with the Stylo 6 by now. I have a coworker who swears by them.

It was the bleepin' charging port that went out on my Note 4 eventually, though I did get three years out of it. So far there have been no problems with it in my Note 9. I did get to test drive some Stylo 5s, and they seemed okay. The interface isn't radically different from the Samsungs. You'll adapt to it quickly. I would suggest trying one at your cell provider if possible to make sure you would like it. The important thing is whether it works for you, not if other people like it.

This was a few months ago, so the Stylo 5s may be cheaper by now, but I would check out what upgrades they've done in the Stylo 6. So far I haven't regretted my choice to stick the Samsung Note series, but I also think I would have done okay with the Stylo. It would have been less money would would have met my needs, which are admittedly modest.

My wife had an LG phone and always seemed to have trouble with it:. First it was the antenna, then the charging port, and finally the battery performance just seemed to deteriorate. She finally went back to a Samsung.

I recently got the Google Pixel 3XL and am pretty happy with it.

Just curious as to why an iPhone is not an option?

Second person to bring up antenna or signal issues with LG. Hmmm going to have to look into that.

my current phone is a LG Venture X, been working fine for the last 2 years. Battery life will be 98%+ after 2 days if you don't use it, but if it's always being used then I'd imagine the battery life sucks and needs charging at least once a day.

I get signal or max signal in areas where verizon and others fail, so that's either a plus for AT&T or the phone, or both.

edit: you can call me an apple hater, will never own an iphone (for corporate and design/implementation reasons). I'm not dedicated to one brand of phones, usually get anything with android that looks decent and is cheap (in price, not quality) and hope it lasts for 3+ years.

Because I have had an iPhone, my wife has an iPhone and I just prefer android over IOS. Not a hater just android over IOS to the point that iPhone is not an option for me.

I'm the same way. I'm definitely in the Android camp even though there were some things about Apple's interface that I liked. When I got that iPhone 6 for free from my dad, it was good to see how the other half lives, but I was really glad I didn't have to pay for it or I would have been upset. It would not play OGG files. I have a massive collection of OGG files in my French language study lessons. Ever since I started studying French, I've kept sample pronunciation files in the OGG format in my flash cards program, Anki. I studied them all the time on the Android version of Anki. Then it turned out that the iPhone version of Anki was not free like the Android one was. It was 25 bucks, which wasn't a disaster because that's affordable and it's a program I use all the time. So I paid that, and then the stupid iPhone wouldn't play the sounds of my note cards because it doesn't support OGG. I figured no big deal, I'm sure there's a plugin I can get online to make the iPhone play them. Nope. OGG sounds files are massively popular in the Open Source community. OGGs are basically the Open Source version of MP3s and are used by millions of people. It's bizarre that Apple doesn't support them on their iPhones. So I could have run a program on my PC to auto-convert all those OGGs to MP3s and inserted them into my collection, but then I would still have to re-associate them to their flash cards in Anki. It would have been a massive project that would have taken weeks. Or I could just buy myself another Android and ditch the iPhone, which I didn't pay money for anyway.

I'm not hating on Apple. I actually think they've done some innovative things over the years, but they sometimes do some things that are bizarre. Offering no support for OGGs is one of them. The Linux PC community favors OGGs over MP3s because they're a format that offers more compactness with the same sound quality or better sound quality with same-size files. Millions of Open Sourcers like me have their entire music collection in OGGs. With Apple not supporting them, they alienate millions of users. I would have even been okay with paying for a plugin to make OGG work. If I had had to pay $20 or so to add OGG abilities to my iPhone, I would have paid it.

The Androids are just better at offering support to almost anything you can think of and allowing more customization. I'm not saying iPhones are bad. That iPhone 6 was still quite capable despite being old, but it just didn't meet my needs, nor do the newer iPhones, which also don't support OGG. Then the paid versions of apps are usually cheaper in Android. There are numerous apps that I'll decide I'm going to use a lot, so paying the two bucks or so for them is no big deal to get all those ads out of there. With the iPhone, an app is often something like 25 bucks, which I MIGHT pay if I'm sure I'm going to use it a lot. Or I might just live with the ads. I will say the best phone Chess game I've found is Mastersoft Chess, which only has an iPhone version. So I keep that old iPhone 6 around just to play that even though it's no longer my phone.

Anyway, sorry to ramble. I'm just curious if you had encountered situations like this in your iPhone use. This is just one of mine. I just kept encountering cases where I said, "Well, crap, I could do that on an Android" or "Wow, it's way more expensive to do this on an iPhone."

I have an LG G4, have had it for 5 years. It's held up remarkably well and only the past couple weeks I have started to have any issues with it. In the last 3 weeks or so, it will just reboot on it's own several times, then it's OK. It's only happened 2 or 3 times, but then again it's 5 years old now. I had a UAG case for it and it's been dropped so many times that the case literally fell apart. The phone is fine, a couple of hairline cracks on the screen, but only noticeable when you hold it at the right angle. The battery has starting to degrade the past couple months.

I can't speak about newer LGs, but mine hasn't had any issues with call quality, reception, or functionality, it's been pretty solid. I'm in the market for a new phone too and I would rather have a headphone jack too.

Well...took longer than I thought before I went to order new phone.
Was going to go with the LG but of course it was out of stock. So I was going to go with the Samsung Note 10 +...what do you know it was out of stock. Had other Galaxy 10s and even a Note 9 for some reason but no Note 10 +.

So just bit the bullet and got the Note 20 Ultra 5g.
Wife got her new Iphone 12 Pro max

So Far I like the new phone. Still waiting on a case I ordered. Stopped at wally world figuring I would just get a cheap case to last until the couple I ordered came in. Walmart sucks for cases unless you have Iphones or old samsungs.
They had ONE case for my phone and it was the overprices over bulky otterbox defender.
Blah

Two issues on the new phone that I will have to get used to vs my Note 8.

The fingerprint scanner. Most complained about the note 8 having it on the back with the camera. Some said if you did not have large hands it was uncomfortable. I personally never had a problem with it and loved it. New phone it is on the screen. I actually think the scanner on the Note 8 was faster although this new one is not really slow.

With newer phones come newer OS. I went from 9 to 11 on the new phone plus the UI is newer.

So I previously did not use the stock AOD (always on display) program I used one I downloaded that had a little better features and I like better. Had it set up to only run when it was charging as I charge at night. So this set as a night clock I could look at when I woke up and also used my phone as an alarm.

With the new OS and/or UI...that program I used is no longer available. You cannot find it on the Play store and when the programs transferred over to the new phone the program apparently was no longer working as I could not set it up.

I had one other issue with my poweramp program not wanting to read the music on my sd card for some reason. It would not read the music folder on the sd card no matter how many times I tried to scan it. I copied all the music to the internal storage and it would load from the music folder on the internal storage. After doing so I recanned the SD Card folder and it finally worked so I went back and removed the 70+ GB of music from the internal storage as the base model phone is only 128 GB.

But with all of that said I really like my new phone.

On a side note I eventually fixed the port on my Note 8 so it could charge. It was amazing how simple and cheap it was to fix. And I would imagine that a number of people have had similar issues with micro usb ports.

It truly is amazing how much can work it's way into the port that you can pull out. One would think just cleaning out the port with some air or shaking it a tad would work but it truly was shocking how much stuff I got out of it and once it was cleaned it charged well and had no issues with transferring files.

LG just introduced the Roller phone at CES that expands to a small tablet and contract to be a regular phone. Supposed to be out this year and after dealing with Apple with the HomePod and ProMax11, I am primed for change.

Samsung is supposed to announce the Galaxy S21 phones later this week with a different screen-based fingerprint sensor.

Like you, it is much easier for me to use it on the back with my S9+ as I can unlock it while picking it up. With the S9+ I get the sensor on the back and a headphone jack.

Because of those changes, I will likely consider other brands of phones when I do eventually think about upgrading.
