How often you guys change phones?

I think I had my note 8 around 3+ years.
And the truth is once I fixed the charging port issue it was and still is a good phone. I just wanted a new phone and I also wanted the updated andorid and samsung UI software.

In this area is where Apple really shines vs Android IMO.

With android when it comes to updated Operating systems you not only have to wait for android to put out a new operating system, you also have to have your phone to work it's software to comply with the new OS. You also have to have your service provider (att, verizon etc) to adapt their software. So Depending on what phone brand and service provider you have you might wait months after a new android OS is put out before you get it. PLUS after a couple of years the phone brands don't bother doing that so even though Android is on OS 11 right now and Samsung UI is on 3....My note 8 was stuck on Android 9 and samsung UI 1 or 2.
So part of getting a new android phone is knowing you will be upgrading in OS off the bat in most cases and you will be able to get a couple of future updates.

With apple they don't have to worry about providers or other brands. They put out a new OS they don't have to wait for the other software to become compatible. And for the most part your iphone will get more OS updates vs androids.

Samsung is supposed to announce the Galaxy S21 phones later this week with a different screen-based fingerprint sensor.

Like you, it is much easier for me to use it on the back with my S9+ as I can unlock it while picking it up. With the S9+ I get the sensor on the back and a headphone jack.

Because of those changes, I will likely consider other brands of phones when I do eventually think about upgrading.

Yup, I'm with you guys. I have an S9+ as well and I really like the fingerprint scanner on the back. Just flows well for me.

Back to topic, as far as brands, I've had a couple Samsung phones and they've seemingly held up well. I haven't had an LG phone in over a decade, and actually, that was before touchscreen phones were a big thing. It was a cool phone for it's time. It had a keyboard that slide out from behind it and you could turn it sideways and text with it like that. Thought that was pretty nifty back in the day. lol

The only thing I liked about my iPhones over my Android phones was the texting. There is just something smooth about their keyboard and texting setup, to me anyway. Other than that, meh. So much more freedom with an Android. Oh, and I love "The Edge" on my S9+. :D

Good call.
I was setting up the wife's new Iphone and forgot how smooth the iphone keyboard/text option was. I am constantly messing up letters on my android (use swift keyboard) but seems like the iphone one just does not miss letters as much.

I've changed on the odd iPhones as long as I've had a smartphone. I had a Blackberry for a day and tried typing on that and went Apple from that point on.

I went pretty much Apple with iPads, iPods and even the HomePod to have everything integrated and now I regret that. I no longer care for Apple so I am looking at being a free agent in the personal technology items field. Strangely, I've never had an Apple laptop or PC.

I don't use smart phones and if I to get one Apple and Google will never be on my list
my choice will be one of those:

Librem 5
install Ubuntu Touch system
DeGoogle an android phone
BlackBerry

Since i don't use apps or social media my flip phone still doing great
