Anyone interested in Dan Henning?

It seems the Panthers nation want him out.

I'm sure he would have been our offensive coordinator had he been available in 03.

OC - Dan Henning
QB - Chris Palmer
OQC - David Lee
AHC/Offensive Line - Tony Sprano

Yeah, I would be interested. He could come over as an OC or OLC.

Are you kidding? Do you see how ridiculous the playcalling is for the Panthers? They are one of the most boring teams to watch offensively.

Funny how evryone blames coordinators when it hits the fan and they go else where and thrive ala Chris Palmer, Sean Payton....Dan Henning?

It goes to prove your OC is only as good as the QB. Before this season - Henning was untouchable. Now that Jake is tanking.....its Hennings fault! Yea ok :rake:

I'd love to know LaTunaNostra's take on this. I think if Henning were to become available, Parcells would definitely try and get him on the Cowboys staff in some capacity.

No, absolutely no interest. Watching that Panther offense every Sunday has been painful this year.

People said the same about Payton and Palmer.

I don't know what people were saying about Palmer or Payton, but I've watched the Panthers every week since Henning has been there and he is horrible. He's almost as bad as Jeff Bowden. That offense is completely lost without Steve Smith, and still completely predictable with him.

Our offense is fine, why people are excited over someone who the Panthers fans can't wait to get out of town is beyond me.

Your only as good as the talent on the team and basically he is trying to win with a great WR

Payton was fired in 2002 for the Giants offensive struggles. Palmer was blamed for the Texans ineptness. Henning coached an offense that was dynamic in Super Bowl XXXVIII and went to a conference championship last year.

I am with you. I watch the Panthers every Sunday. Their playbook apparently lacks imagination and is incredibly predictable. Part of it is Jake Delhomme, the other part is they only have about 4 formations they run plays out of. Henning is ultra-conservative, even for Parcells. They have all the elements of a good offense, great receiving tandem, great backfield, solid o-line, and a better than decent QB. They dont score points.

He could still make for an excellent O-line coach.

How would he be upgrading what we have? With a non-statue QB, our oline is pretty good. Our offensive playcalling has been great. We would be hiring him just for the sake, just like everyone wants Dallas to sign the Duce Staleys of the world, or every other guy that gets released from another team.

I understand that you can only win with the talent you've got, but they've got two other decent receivers and two or three decent RBs (when they're healthy). The only clear problem skill position is the OL. And the play calling is just suspect at some times, didn't they throw a fade last night at the 7 with two timeouts left? Another example from another board:
3rd & 9? Draw. Recovered block punt @ the opp40 w/:12 in the half? Draw. 3rd & long @ the opp40, down 4 w/2:00+ to go? Draw.

Henning is just terrible IMO, and I see no reason to bring him in, the offense is fine as it is.

lets not emulate the Commanders. :)

he's a quality coach but we can't make changes just to make changes. our O is clicking and any changes at this point - barring some unforseen collapse - would probably be subtraction by addition.

Well, I'm biased towards Coach Henning. Not only is he Tuna's major buddy, but he coached both for Bill at the Jets, and also for my alma mater, Boston College (where he got the rawest of deals...the fall-out from the infamous gambling scandal, and player-bookies had been common at BC for decades..but Dan was the scapegoat for not understanding the 'culture' of the school.)

He was imo, both a savvy QB developer (Pennington and Lucas) and a good OC in NY. He had enough pull with, and respect from Bill to be able to push him to open things up.
Like Tuna, he's ball control/TOP play-action driven, and favors a downfield game...not a dink and dunker. He was a good developer of wide outs..Lav Coles was with him his first year. He was also a key developer of Chrebet.

Bill is grooming Sparano for a HC job....if he leaves next year, I'd love to see Dan come in as part of the committee.

One thing Henning loves is working with young QBs...he delighted in teaching Chad P. how to minimize lack of great arm strength and emphasize good decisions...I will never forget an interview with Dan when he talked about rookie Chad and his eyes literally glowed...the way a good teacher does when he knows he has a primo student. Tony's had good handling so far, and Henning would just add to it.

Most importantly, Coach Henning doesn't force qbs into his 'system'...he's like Bill offensively, no slavery to a system..very flexible..he will work in wco aspects more when he has the qb for it. Never afraid to throw or play multi -receiver sets if warranted.

If he did come in, I don't know what title he'd get ..or what role he'd play. Palmer is here, and Haley even if Sparano does get an HC job. But even if he were just consulting, the long friendship he has had with Bill would be soothing for Bill, imo..if just to bounce things around between them.

But like I say, Waffle, I am biased in his behalf.

This is true but if the Panthers cut him loose I'm sure Parcells will be the first to give him a call. He put in a call to Henning when he first got to Valley Ranch so if he's available expect Big Bill to make the call again. Part of the reason we have this run game coordinator/pass game coordinator crap is because we don't have an OC that Parcells fully trusts.

Secondly, I think Sparano needs to go. I don't necessarily think that our players suck I think it lies more with coaching than anything. Flozell Adams and Marco Rivera have been to a number of pro bowls, and Fabini has also been to one if I'm not mistaken. I don't think these guys just forgot how to play in a year or two.

Panther Nation may want him gone (they have said the same thing about getting rid of John Fox, as well), but Fox himself said they will not change the OC, nor will they change the QB.

Finding Panther fans that have any understanding of the game of football is like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. There may be some, but for the most part, they couldn't tell you the difference between a QB and a LB.
