Anyone interested in spicy food or hot challenges?

My last thread in here crashed and burned due to politics, so I'll go as far away from that as possible.

I eat spicy food and have completed multiple challenges. Anyone else here interested in that? But currently there is a controversy brewing. Supposedly pepper X and the last Dab Experience is under scrutiny. The hot sauce featured on Hot Ones. Any thoughts?

I do like my Mexican food to be pretty spicy, but I would never enter any kind of eating contest. I just find that kinda gross.

We have a tavern close to me that has a HOT chicken wing challenge. Have to eat 10 wings in 10 minutes without drink and without throwing up for 5 minutes after you finish, IF you finish. They will not tell you what’s in the sauce but it is brutal. At any rate, I am the only one that has completed it. Most people dont get past 3 or 4 wings. I am sure the professional eaters could probably do it after watching some of them. All I know is, the sauce isn’t orange, it is brown.

Well yeah, that's what I'm talking about. I've also completed several challenges.

But the thing I'm talking about is the show Hot Ones!. Anyone watch it? I know I'm in the minority when it comes to super hot pepper eating. But is anyone familiar with what is the hottest pepper?

Never heard of that show. I’ll check it out.

Yup. I have a one chip challenge in my pantry. Been meaning to do it.
Wife got me the hot ones kit for my birthday and we ordered some plain wings from wing stop and played along. It was fun.

Hot Ones is a pretty funny show. I'm surprised at some of the guests.

As for challenges, I have no interest in eating things that are so hot, you can't enjoy the flavor. I like spicy...even hot food, but I like the spice as an enhancement, not the main feature.

My Mom competed in a few jalapeño eating contests and I never had the desire after watching those contests.

This. The heat has to accentuate and compliment the taste, not override it.

I really love spicy food, but I want to enjoy it. Not have my nose running, my eyes tearing and my esophagus on fire just to see how much heat I can endure. Nothing really enjoyable about that.

No kidding. No one likes that. You only endure that for challenges. If something is too hot, you can't taste the food. If I'm sitting down to eat, I don't want the heat to be higher than a 1 or 2 on a scale of 1-10. Everyone has a different tolerance level. The higher your tolerance level, the more spicy stuff you can taste.

I love spicy food. I’ll lather on Tabasco or Cholula, I like soy sauce with my wasabi at the sushi joints. Burgers aren’t burgers without jalapeños. My favorite restaurants and dishes are all the usual spicy affairs - Cajun to Hot Wings to Asian to Mexican. And I keep waiting for this to end because I’m getting up there in age, but so far Italian actually hurts me more with all the tomato sauce heart burn.

So I’d like to think that I would do pretty well on most of these spicy challenges I watch on YouTube. However, like everyone else, I have no interest in anything that turns food into something unpleasant.

I agree 100% with the burgers.

As far as challenges go, there are several different ways to build tolerance. None of them are pleasant. The higher tolerance you have, it opens up more spicy foods you can eat. For example, I used to (still do) eat sausage peppers and onions with the peppers being habanero. Now I can eat it with ghost peppers. Totally different flavor. But you need the tolerance to do it. Or else it's all pain, no flavor.

I bought the hot sauce called the last dab experience. Save your money. It's not worth 10 bucks, let alone 25.

Yea, I love me some spicy food. But if you're eating something so spicy its causing you real anguish and you just keep going anyway, I just see that as fake machismo, which is so downright silly and sad thats still a thing in 2024.

I don't know that I'd call it false machismo for everyone who does it, but for some I'm sure it is.

In most cases, you're doing it as a challenge. People do uncomfortable things in challenges all of the time. That's the purpose of a challenge.

I've completed the Death Nut 2 challenge. The solar flare challenge. And the cherry nightmare challenge from Johnny Schoville. I suffered through them. No different from someone running a marathon to see if they can do it. You suffer to complete the task. But if I'm just sitting down to eat, it's not going to be a face melter. It's going to be something I can taste and enjoy.

I was in Walmart earlier and found 'Melinda's Ghost Pepper Ketchup' It looks like a miniature Heinz bottle. I'll let you know how it is as soon as I crack it. I'm always looking for good hot sauce.

Did anyone try that chip challenge? I was going to give that a shot a while back but I can't find it anymore.

You can buy those hot chips from Amazon. But as far as eating hot food, I'm an Navajo Indian and I like chile so hot that I have to piss in the river so I don't set the forest on fire.
