Anyone into Cycling?

About a month ago, I checked my mailbox and I had mistakenly been given a "Bicyclist" magazine. As luck would have it, it was the annual buyers guide that had just about every model you could think of in it.

I thumbed through the magazine, and for about two weeks I laughed and laughed, and laughed at these fools who would pay 4-6-8-10 grand for a fricken BICYCLE !!! The prices just shocked me silly. No motors....just pedals.

After a few weeks of this magazine lying around I decided one day to see what all the fuss was about and I brushed off the dust from my walmart special mountain bike that has about 1 mile on it since I bought it new back in 2001.

I rode around white rock lake (for you dallas people), which is about 9.5 miles. It took me over an hour because I wasn't sure exactly how tough it was going to be so I took my time.

I had a ball doing this, even though it was clear that the bike I was on was a total piece of you know what. I kept going back and back and back some more, until after about 100 miles on my walmart special bike, it just died on me. I have since bought a roadbike on craigslist for $400. Carbon forks, Carbon stays, damn thing was almost new even though it was 3 years old.

I love this riding thing. I am now riding around white rock in 37 minutes. I've been really watching what I'm eating and even trying to give up my marlboro's because of this health kick this bike has put me on. I've lost about 10 lbs so far and I'm feeling pretty good. I'm even thinking about training for a mini triathalon.

If I keep this up for a whole year, and still enjoy it as much as I do now, I'm going to break down and buy one of those high dollar bikes I was laughing at in that magazine just a month ago (ok, maybe not one of those crazy high dollar ones).

So i was wondering if anyone else considers themselves a cyclist. If so, how'd you get into it?

No, but do you think Lance Armstrong was juicing? I heard some of his trainers were followed one time to a dumpster and were found to be disposing of a bag full of needles. Hmmm....

There's no way someone can be that far ahead of the competition without taking something.

I saw the footage of that. It was very telling. If I had to put a bet on it, I'd say yes, he's juicing. He's got the temper to go with it too. The dude is flat out mean.

I think Lance has been caught juicing

but cycling is hard, esp if you just start doing it, your thighs get so tense

I've been meaning to get into it.... Just haven't got a bike yet. I think that would be the best way for me to exercise. The running thing doesn't do anything for me.

Really? I have never heard that.

I think it's obvious. You don't win that many times in a row without cheating. On top of that, he's got that classic balding pattern going.

That doesn't keep the rest of me in shape. I need to target other areas...

I ride at WR at least once a week. I have a GT Avalanche 3.0 mountain bike.

You ought to try taking the White Rock Creek Trail, from WR, up to Valley View Park off Hillcrest Road, just north of 635.

It's a great loop, to start at VVP, ride down to WR and around it one or two times, being sure to stop at the liquor stores at the Garland Rd end for a cold Tall-Boy "roadie", then back up to VVP.

I can kill 3 hours doing that, easy!

Al Gore thinks you should watch out for ManBearPig. Al Gore thinks that ManBearPig is camping out in that very area.

I think the only thing Al Gore has been watching out for lately, is the "Hot Now" sign at Krispy Kreme!

Righteous. Thanks for the tip. I won't need to stop at the liquor stores though, I keep two water bottles full of beer. You can't take chances in the Dallas heat. You simply must stay hydrated.

they have this bike race in AZ, where they cycle around and stop at a multitude of bars, and chug beers, and then keep going

maybe Hos has heard of it and could go more in-depth about it
