Anyone know anything about Jarrod Pughsley, OG?

I've seen several positive things from Broaddus on Twitter and DC.com about Jarrod Pughsley, the rookie OG from Akron. The scouting writeup on him at DC.com about a week ago sounded like it was describing a mid round pick but I don't find anything at all on him in the draft reports I have (not even as a potential 7th rounder). He is 6'4", 308 lbs and had a 30 Wonderlic score, does anyone have anything in depth or direct observation of the guy?

Can't believe he wasn't Drafted, 35 Reps at 225 lbs, why wasn't he Drafted? Great FA signing.

All Pughsley has done in 13 practices is come on to take over the starting left tackle spot (at Akron) on the offensive line, putting an exclamation point on his career at UA.

Pughsley, who had a host of interest from Division II schools coming out of Lima Senior High School, chose to walk on for the Zips, feeling that he had the ability to play football at the Division I level.

He also walked on with 50 pounds of excess weight.

“I worked my butt off to get on scholarship,” Pughsley said. “I have a single mother; it’s all the motivation that I needed.”

Pughsley took off the weight, beginning in January 2010, and worked on it continuously. Injuries kept him off the field except for a few games last season. But to watch him play, he looks as if he always has been a fit at the left tackle position.

He’s long at 6-foot-4, 290 pounds, giving him plenty of range to pass protect. In fact, he’s one of the few offensive linemen who have been able to contain Zips defensive end Albert Presley during drills. Yes, it’s only practice, but he fits the mold of what coach Terry Bowden’s offense needs at that position.

“In what we do offensively, we can’t have non-athletic linemen,” offensive line coach Alan Arrington said. “We got to have guys who move their feet. I think now, after 13 practices, there’s no question he’s the guy who will be at left tackle. There’s nobody even close.”

Raw talent, but dances with his man too much and doesn't move his feet. The first punch is a tad weak as well. What I do like is that he seems to know where the defensive man is going and gets there first. I think he can be taught better technique and may be able to kick inside. Just my take, but i love the pickup and with linemen you love it when you can develop a UDFA and end up with a starter.

Totally agree, Leary had a developmental year, mostly on the Practice Squad, and played well as a starter in his second year. I'd love to see Pughsley do the same.

He is powerful and aggressive. He plays "through the whistle".

He appears much heavier in game footage than his Pro Day weigh-in of 308.

I look forward to seeing these guys when they put the pads on. Sounds as if we may be some good prospects in camp but so hard to tell until they get the pads on and start hitting for real.

- 1 for failing to write the obvious "Jarrod from Subway" joke.

Pughsley seems to have the physical skills (and a Wonderlic of 30), no idea if he makes the 53 but I'd love to see him become another Leary, Church or Miles Austin that starts after an NFL redshirt year.

It would be nice if he could get off the line a little faster.

As long as he don't play before the whistle I think we're good X
