Anyone know why Brian McCann was not brought back?

Why is he a Raider now? What happened?

Edit: I know they cut him to make room for Robinson last year, but I'm surprised they didn't bring him back to camp, he wasn't on a roster at the end of last year.

Pretty sure the Braves have him locked up for a couple more years yet, and the rumor was he wouldn't accept the position change from catcher to cornerback.

I noticed he was on the raiders too. I was also suprised that we let alan ball go too.

He wasn't brought back because he wasn't a very good CB. Although we should of kept him just to be a PR

They tried Ball at CB and at S, even going so far as to hand him a starting job on a silver platter, and he couldn't play either position...and you were surprised we let him go?!?

Wow.

As for McCann, his big claim to fame was the long INT for a TD, and that had less to do with his CB play than it did his speed going down the sidelines, as it was a horrible throw that my Uncle Dickie could have picked off...and he weighed 350+. His primary contribution was on special teams, specifically as a return man, and he fumbled too much.

I know he didnt do the best last year. But i just thought he had talent and he was fast.

His best hope is as a special teams guy and a back-up here and there. He was a free agent, and they had no interest in bringing him back, as they had seen what he could offer.

I wish him well...but not on our roster.

Ball is in Houston

Ball is getting killed in Houston on the talk shows.. one guy said he had the worst series at CB in a game in NFL history. I watched a little of the Texans and Panthers game and the QB's were just making Ball look like me out there. It is easy to see why we cut him. He is just horrible and there is talk in Houston that he will be cut from the Texans.

He got playing time after Dallas had injuries but last year he did not seem to show any progress at CB after getting starting reps. Which i assume Dallas cut him and decided to go a different direction.

:lmao2:

Please tell me this is a joke.

If I recall, in 2010 (a season to forget)... McCann had two huge highlight plays for us. One was a pick 6 of 100 plus yards vs. the Giants and another was some weird punt return where the ball was bouncing around by the goal line and he picked it up and went the distance.

In a season filled with disappointment I really remember those two big plays and relish them. That being said, he is not too good at CB. I think he could be a dynamic return man if he mainly focused on that though.

Ok maybe it was for good reason than. Ball must not be near as good as i thought. Lol oh well. I didnt mean keep him to start here. I just thought hed be a good backup with potential.

He would have served better than Ball, and Walker

They don't want itty bitty little corners.

I think this is the issue.

I thought the McCann had some talent and might be a good slot CB; however, I'm convinced that other than Scandrick, Rob Ryan really really does not like small Cornerbacks.

One of the 1st cuts in training camp this year was Madison who was also the smallest CB on the roster.

In 2011, they cut:
McCann - 5'10, 182
Josh Thomas - 5'10, 190

and kept:
Frank Walker - 5'11, 202
Alan Ball - 6-2, 195
